About the Role:
We are seeking a highly detail-oriented and reliable Data Assistant to support a growing medical billing practice. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with structured data, catching small errors, and staying organized in an administrative environment where accuracy is critical.
This is an in-person role based in a private home office in the East Village, so we are looking for someone who is respectful, professional, and comfortable working in a more personal setting.
We’re also looking for someone with a positive, easygoing attitude who communicates openly, asks questions when needed, and contributes to a calm, productive working environment. This is a great side role with potential to grow into a larger opportunity over time.
This position is especially well-suited for a college student heading into summer break who is looking for a consistent, part-time role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Input and maintain accurate billing and patient data in internal systems
- Organize and manage medical records, claims documentation, and supporting files
- Review entries for accuracy and flag inconsistencies or missing information
- Assist with administrative workflows related to insurance claims and billing processes
- Assist with basic calculations related to payments, reimbursements, and averages as needed
Qualifications:
- Exceptional attention to detail (this is essential)
- Comfortable working with numbers, including basic calculations (averages, totals, etc.)
- Comfortable using spreadsheets for simple data tracking and calculations
- Highly organized with strong file management skills
- Not afraid to ask questions when something is unclear
- Reliable, consistent, and able to work independently
- Friendly, professional attitude with strong communication skills
Preferred (but not required):
- Basic understanding of health insurance and billing processes
- AIRTABLE familiarity
- Familiarity with Windows/PC systems preferred
- Experience with platforms such as Tebra or Availity
- Background in math, finance, pre-med, or a related fieldConfidentiality:
This role involves access to sensitive patient and financial information. The candidate must maintain strict confidentiality at all times and will be required to sign a confidentiality agreement in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
Schedule & Perks:
- Approximately 6 hours per week (typically once or twice weekly)
- Flexible scheduling with consistent weekly availability preferred
