What are the responsibilities and job description for the Executive Director position at Medical loan closet of Henderson County?
The Executive Director serves as the chief operational leader of the Medical Loan Closet (MLC). Working in close partnership with a volunteer Board of Directors, the ED will oversee daily operations, spearhead fundraising and revenue diversification, manage community outreach, and orchestrate our vital volunteer network.
Fundraising & Financial Resilience (40%)
- Partner with the Board to execute the Strategic Plan's financial goals, including building a 3-month operating reserve.
- Diversify revenue streams by identifying and applying for local/regional grants (e.g., Community Foundation partnerships).
- Develop and manage donor cultivation campaigns, email appeals, and creative point-of-sale contribution programs.
Community Visibility & Partnerships (25%)
- Serve as the primary public face of MLC across Henderson County and Western NC.
- Establish and grow referral pipelines with area hospitals, nursing homes, home health agencies, and community clinics.
- Oversee updates to the organization’s website and maintain a consistent, impactful social media presence.
Operations & Volunteer Leadership (25%)
- Support, motivate, and help coordinate the primary volunteer base responsible for equipment refurbishment and customer service.
- Implement standardized training checklists and digital safety assets (including equipment-handling video tools).
- Work alongside the Board Secretary to transition legacy business files into modern, cloud-backed digital records and databases.
Governance & Board Relations (10%)
- Collaborate with the Board Chair to prepare annual budgets, financial metrics, and operational reports.
- Assist the Board in ongoing recruitment of new members and the drafting of compliant core policies.
Qualifications
- Experience: 2 years of leadership experience, ideally within a nonprofit environment, volunteer-heavy organization, or healthcare/community service setting.
- Skills: Proven comfort with basic budgeting, local fundraising strategies, and community outreach. Comfort with digital tools (Microsoft 365/Google Workspace, cloud storage, basic database entry).
- Qualities: High emotional intelligence, alignment with a faith-based service mission, and a collaborative spirit.
- Schedule Flexibility: Ability to manage a 30-hour week with high autonomy, balancing physical on-site presence at the closet with remote administrative work.
