Responsibilities
- Review and analyze medical records to assign appropriate ICD-10, ICD-9, CPT, and DRG codes following current medical coding guidelines.
- Ensure accurate electronic health record (EHR) management for billing and coding purposes using specialized billing software.
- Process insurance claims efficiently, including third-party billing and health insurance claim submissions, to maximize reimbursement.
- Verify patient information, insurance details, and medical documentation to ensure compliance with regulations and policies.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation and resolve coding discrepancies or claim denials.
- Maintain comprehensive medical records while adhering to confidentiality standards and legal requirements.
- Stay updated on evolving medical coding standards, including ICD coding updates (ICD-10), DRG classifications, CPT codes, and medical terminology.
Experience
- Proven experience in medical billing and coding within a healthcare setting or medical office environment.
- Strong knowledge of ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT coding systems, as well as DRG classifications for inpatient services.
- Familiarity with EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems and EHR (Electronic Health Record) management for billing purposes.
- Understanding of health insurance processes, including claim submission, adjudication, and revenue cycle management.
- Ability to interpret medical records accurately and apply appropriate coding guidelines for various specialties.
- Experience with billing software platforms and electronic health record systems is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, medical records management, and insurance third-party billing procedures is essential.
