Job Summary And Qualifications
Under the supervision of the Vice President of Clinical Operation, the Nurse Manager of Med/Surg, Oncology and Blood Cancer unit(s), shares 24-hour accountability and additional responsibility for the effective and efficient operation of the Medical Surgical/Oncology, Blood Cancer unit(s). Functions will be performed in accordance with the nurse practitioner in a manner consistent with the mission and goals of the organization.

Job Summary And Qualifications
Under the supervision of the Vice President of Clinical Operation, the Nurse Manager of Med/Surg, Oncology and Blood Cancer unit(s), shares 24-hour accountability and additional responsibility for the effective and efficient operation of the Medical Surgical/Oncology, Blood Cancer unit(s). Functions will be performed in accordance with the nurse practitioner in a manner consistent with the mission and goals of the organization.
QUALITY:
- Performs hourly rounding and responds promptly to call lights and patient requests. Strives to anticipate patient needs and resolve them proactively.
- Follows patient and employee safety/security policies and protocols, including hand hygiene, use of universal precautions, use of personal protective equipment, and adherence to isolation procedures.
- Functions effectively as an interdisciplinary team member.
- Accepts responsibility for assurance that quality patient care is provided consistently according to hospital and departmental standards and policies/procedures.
- Accepts accountability and responsibility for achievement of operational and capital budget goals.
- Shares 24-hour accountability and responsibility with the Vice President of Clinical Operations for the effective and efficient operation of Med/Surg, Oncology and Blood Cancer Unit(s).
- Demonstrates excellent communication skills, including active listening.
- Ensures patients, physicians, and colleagues have a clear understanding of all communications.
- Engages in evidence-based best practices that enhance the patient experience, including SAFETY rounding, communication fundamentals/AIDET, Teach-Back, Narrating Care, etc.
- Participates as an active member of the health care team and positively promotes the rest of the team to patients, families, caregivers and other colleagues.
- Uses job knowledge and proficiency of skills to successfully assist in orientation of new employees.
- Shares new knowledge with peers and mentors with less experience.
- Identifies and assists with opportunities for performance improvement activities on the unit and with other service areas.
- Demonstrates fiscal responsibility by taking ownership of time management, decreasing waste of time and supplies, and promoting cost effectiveness while maintaining patient safety and quality of care.
EDUCATION:
- Graduate of an accredited professional school of nursing with Bachelor of Science in Nursing required.
- Master of Science in Nursing or other related field preferred.
- Current RN licensure by the State of Texas or from a Compact State if you declare the compact state your primary state of residence.
- Basic Life Support (BLS).
- ACLS required.
- ONS/ONCC® Chemo/Immunotherapy Certification required.
- Clinical practice within last 2 years in area of expertise required.
- 3 years’ experience in Medical Surgical Unit required.
