Job Summary And Qualifications

Under the supervision of the Vice President of Clinical Operation, the Nurse Manager of Med/Surg, Oncology and Blood Cancer unit(s), shares 24-hour accountability and additional responsibility for the effective and efficient operation of the Medical Surgical/Oncology, Blood Cancer unit(s). Functions will be performed in accordance with the nurse practitioner in a manner consistent with the mission and goals of the organization.

QUALITY:

  • Performs hourly rounding and responds promptly to call lights and patient requests. Strives to anticipate patient needs and resolve them proactively.
  • Follows patient and employee safety/security policies and protocols, including hand hygiene, use of universal precautions, use of personal protective equipment, and adherence to isolation procedures.
  • Functions effectively as an interdisciplinary team member.
  • Accepts responsibility for assurance that quality patient care is provided consistently according to hospital and departmental standards and policies/procedures.
  • Accepts accountability and responsibility for achievement of operational and capital budget goals.
  • Shares 24-hour accountability and responsibility with the Vice President of Clinical Operations for the effective and efficient operation of Med/Surg, Oncology and Blood Cancer Unit(s).

SERVICE:

  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills, including active listening.
  • Ensures patients, physicians, and colleagues have a clear understanding of all communications.
  • Engages in evidence-based best practices that enhance the patient experience, including SAFETY rounding, communication fundamentals/AIDET, Teach-Back, Narrating Care, etc.
  • Participates as an active member of the health care team and positively promotes the rest of the team to patients, families, caregivers and other colleagues.

PEOPLE:

  • Uses job knowledge and proficiency of skills to successfully assist in orientation of new employees.
  • Shares new knowledge with peers and mentors with less experience.

GROWTH:

  • Identifies and assists with opportunities for performance improvement activities on the unit and with other service areas.

FINANCE:

  • Demonstrates fiscal responsibility by taking ownership of time management, decreasing waste of time and supplies, and promoting cost effectiveness while maintaining patient safety and quality of care.

What qualifications you will need:

EDUCATION:

  • Graduate of an accredited professional school of nursing with Bachelor of Science in Nursing required.
  • Master of Science in Nursing or other related field preferred.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Current RN licensure by the State of Texas or from a Compact State if you declare the compact state your primary state of residence.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • ACLS required.
  • ONS/ONCC® Chemo/Immunotherapy Certification required.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Clinical practice within last 2 years in area of expertise required.
  • 3 years’ experience in Medical Surgical Unit required.
