Job Summary

We are seeking a compassionate, detail-oriented Ophthalmic Technician to join our team. This role supports our physicians by providing excellent patient care and assisting with clinical testing in a fast-paced ophthalmology practice.

Duties

  • Perform comprehensive ophthalmic patient examinations, including measuring visual acuity, intraocular pressure (tonometry), and conducting refraction tests.
  • Operate specialized ophthalmic diagnostic imaging equipment to assist in diagnosis and treatment planning.
  • Assist with patient intake procedures, including collecting medical histories and vital signs while maintaining strict adherence to HIPAA and clinical confidentiality policies.
  • Prepare and maintain ophthalmic medical equipment, ensuring proper aseptic technique during procedures to prevent infection.
  • Support ophthalmologists during examinations and minor procedures by providing accurate test results and documentation within electronic health records (EHR/EHR).
  • Educate patients on eye health, treatment plans, and post-procedure care, ensuring clear communication and excellent patient service.
  • Maintain a clean, organized clinical environment following infection control standards and safety protocols.
  • Manage patient flow efficiently to optimize clinic operations while delivering compassionate direct patient care.

Skills

  • Knowledge of ophthalmology practices, including eye anatomy, physiology, and common ocular conditions.
  • Proficiency in operating ophthalmic diagnostic tools such as tonometers, A-scan biometry devices, and ophthalmic imaging equipment.
  • Strong understanding of medical terminology related to eye care and clinical procedures.
  • Experience with EMR/EHR systems for accurate documentation of patient information and test results.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA regulations to ensure patient privacy and confidentiality at all times.
  • Ability to perform basic optical tasks such as eye refraction and assisting with optical sales when necessary.
  • Excellent patient service skills with a focus on compassionate communication across diverse populations, including pediatrics.
  • Knowledge of clinical confidentiality policies combined with attention to detail in maintaining medical records securely.
