Position Summary
The Pharmacist (PRN) provides as-needed professional pharmaceutical services to patients of Medical Associates Plus (MAP), a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). Under the direction of the Pharmacy Manager, the Pharmacist (PRN) supports medication dispensing, regulatory compliance, patient counseling, and pharmacy technician oversight. This role ensures continuity of operations during high-volume periods, staff absences, or special projects, while upholding MAP’s mission to deliver affordable, equitable healthcare, including compliance with 340B, Good Faith Estimate (GFE), and Sliding Fee Scale (SFS) standards.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Dispense prescription medications accurately and efficiently in accordance with legal, clinical, and ethical standards.
- Review and verify provider orders, ensuring appropriate dosage, contraindications, and therapeutic value.
- Provide patient counseling regarding medication usage, potential side effects, interactions, and adherence strategies.
- Supervise pharmacy technicians in the preparation, labeling, and distribution of medications.
- Ensure full compliance with state and federal pharmacy laws, including 340B Drug Pricing Program requirements and HIPAA privacy rules.
- Support GFE requirements by addressing cost transparency and educating patients on prescription costs as applicable.
- Monitor and reconcile inventory, controlled substances, and expired medications, document according to regulatory standards.
- Respond to inquiries from healthcare providers and patients regarding prescriptions, drug interactions, and pharmaceutical care plans.
- Participate in internal audits, quality assurance activities, and regulatory reporting as assigned.
- Assist in processing clinic-use medication requests and provider-initiated treatment plans.
- Maintain patient confidentiality, professional conduct, and FQHC compliance in all areas of responsibility.
- Perform other duties within scope of licensure as assigned by the Pharmacy Manager or Practice Manager.
Qualifications
Knowledge, skills and abilities
- Proficiency with pharmacy information systems and EHR platforms.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented clinical environment.
- BLS certification required (or must obtain upon hire).
- Must be willing to travel to the following locations when needed; Augusta, Thomson, Wrens
Education
- Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited institution (PharmD preferred).
- Active, unrestricted pharmacist license in the State of Georgia (required).
Experience
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in retail, hospital, or outpatient pharmacy setting preferred.
Working Conditions
- Requires standing or walking for extended periods.
- Manual dexterity for handling medications and operating pharmacy equipment.
- Occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds.
- Visual and auditory acuity to ensure dispensing accuracy and effective communication.
- Work performed in a clinical pharmacy environment with direct patient and team interaction.
- May require occasional evening or weekend shifts based on operational needs.
- Exposure to various medications and high-volume or urgent care scenarios.
- Position is PRN; hours and shifts are not guaranteed and are scheduled based on organizational needs.
