Position Summary
The Psychiatrist provides direct psychiatric services and clinical leadership for the Behavioral Health Department at Medical Associates Plus (MAP), a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). This role ensures the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered, and integrated behavioral health care. The Psychiatrist supervises behavioral health staff, supports strategic planning, ensures regulatory compliance, drives quality improvement, and fosters integration with primary care services.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Diagnose and treat patients within the scope of licensure.
- Provide psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and consultation services.
- Promote the principles of health care integration and the Patient-Centered Medical Home.
- Improve patient access through evidence-based models and streamlined scheduling and triage protocols.
- Monitor behavioral health operations, patient flow, referrals, and service implementation.

- Collaborate with the CMO and leadership to develop and implement behavioral health strategies aligned with organizational goals.
- Conduct annual assessments of community behavioral health needs and recommend program development.
- Monitor monthly productivity and financial performance; initiate improvement plans as needed.
- Collaborate with the Quality Improvement Director to analyze clinical and operational data.
- Lead initiatives to enhance outcomes, technology adoption, and patient experience.
- Define competency standards and conduct performance evaluations for behavioral health staff.
- Lead regular behavioral health team meetings to address policy updates, care quality, and team development.
- Participate in organizational meetings and administrative functions as directed by the CMO.
Qualifications
Education
- Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO), or Doctor of Psychiatry (PsyD/PhD).
- Licensed to practice psychiatry in the State of South Carolina.
- Active South Carolina License
- Board certification
- Open to obtaining GA license as well.
Experience
- Minimum five (2) years’ experience in community health or public mental health preferred.
- At least three (2) years in a clinical leadership role preferred.
Physical Demands
- Ability to perform job duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Frequent sitting, intermittent walking, and use of office and clinical equipment.
- Visual and auditory acuity required (with or without assistive devices).
- Office-based clinical environment with occasional interruptions and high patient interaction.
- Occasional travel between MAP sites may be required.
Work Environment
- Office-based clinical environment within a healthcare setting
- Work is primarily performed indoors with extended periods of computer use.
- Frequent interaction with patients, providers, and internal staff via phone, email, and in person.
