Are you a mechanic looking for a change of pace? Medic 1 Ambulance is seeking a hands-on Fleet MechanicFacility Maintenance Technician to keep our vehicles safe, reliable, and compliant, and to maintain our stations and support buildings in good working order. This is a critical behind-the-scenes role - when this position is done well, crews can focus entirely on patient care. This position provides a good deal of autonomy, you would be the sole Mechanic at our company with your own shop. The schedule is typically 0700-1600, but we do offer some flexibility and are willing to occasionally alter those hours, so long as the job is getting down.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

Fleet MaintenanceRepair

  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on ambulances and fleet support vehicles (oil changes, brakes, tires, fluids, belts, filters)
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on gas vehicles
  • Inspect and maintain emergency vehicle systems, including lighting, sirens, and power systems specific to ambulances
  • Maintain patient compartment equipment mounts, cabinetry, and box integrity as needed
  • Conduct DOT-required inspections and maintain compliance documentation
  • Track vehicle maintenance history and schedule service using a fleet maintenance log or software system
  • Respond to breakdowns and coordinate towing/repair to minimize vehicle downtime
  • Order and manage parts inventory; maintain relationships with local vendors and suppliers
  • Perform welding, minor bodywork, or coordinate with outside vendors for major body/collision repair as needed

Facility Maintenance

  • Perform minor repairs and preventive maintenance on stations/facilities (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, doors, lighting)
  • Maintain generators, backup power systems, and bay doors
  • Handle minor carpentry, painting, and structural repairs
  • Coordinate with outside contractors for specialized facility work (HVAC servicing, roofing, major electrical)
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and code-compliant working environment across all stations
  • Respond to facility emergencies (e.g., water leaks, HVAC failure) as needed, including some after-hours calls
  • Perform snow removal during the winter months, maintaining both driveways and sidewalks.

SafetyCompliance

  • Follow all safety protocols when working on vehicles and equipment
  • Maintain accurate records for DOT, state EMS licensing, and internal audit requirements
  • Ensure fleet and facilities meet applicable OSHA standards
  • Participate in safety meetings and training as required

PHYSICAL STRENGTH REQUIRED:

  • Must be able to lift minimum of 100 pounds alone at waist high level and carry a distance of 50 yards without pausing.

  • Individual is required to stand for long periods of time and to use hands, and fingers to be able to handle or feel what they're working with. Individual is required to reach with hands, arms and may be required to sit, stoop, kneel or crawl.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

  • Must be adaptive to work in all types of weather conditions, including, but not limited to, rain, snow, heat, etc.

  • Individual in this position may be subjected to predisposing themselves to be at risk for:

  • bodily harm
  • exposure to bloodborne pathogens and other potentially infectious materials (OPIM).

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience as an automotive/diesel mechanic, fleet technician, or equivalent
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs, work in varied physical positions (kneeling, crouching, under vehicles), and work in all weather conditions
  • Own basic hand tools (specialty/diagnostic tools provided by employer)
  • Willingness to be on-call for emergency repairs/breakdowns

Preferred:

  • ASE certification(s) in relevant specialties (brakes, electrical, diesel engines, etc.)
  • Experience working specifically on ambulances or other emergency vehicles
  • Experience with fleet maintenance software
  • Basic HVAC, electrical, or plumbing experience for facility maintenance duties
  • EVT (Emergency Vehicle Technician) certification (Or willingness to obtain within 12 months of hire)
