An established, employee-owned publishing house is hiring a College Publishing Sales Representative covering its Fort Worth territory. This field sales role promotes textbooks and digital courseware to undergraduate instructors across the humanities, sciences, and social sciences. The representative consults with faculty about their teaching challenges and demonstrates how the publisher's educational materials can support their course goals.
The position blends in-person campus visits with virtual meetings, offering intellectual variety across dozens of subject areas. This territory involves approximately 40% overnight travel. The company emphasizes mentorship, internal promotion, and long-term career development.
What the Role Covers
- Conducting approximately four college visits per week during the academic year, consulting with 10 to 15 professors per campus day
- Conducting virtual meetings with faculty on non-campus days
- Developing relationships with academic faculty by assessing teaching challenges and presenting relevant educational solutions
- Engaging with instructors through cold calls and scheduled appointments
- Learning major new titles, revised editions, and competing texts each year
- Increasing revenue and adoption rates for books and courseware within the defined territory
- Collaborating with colleagues on strategic plans for priority sales opportunities
- Setting tracking and revenue goals with sales management guidance
- Documenting activities and tracking progress using Salesforce
- Providing customer support to instructors evaluating or assigning course materials
- Attending national and regional conferences
Qualifications
- BA/BS degree and a valid driver's license
- Must reside within or near the Fort Worth territory (relocation can be negotiated)
- Strong communication and critical thinking skills
- Ability to travel by car and airplane, with approximately 40% overnight travel for campus visits, conferences, and training
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
