Position Summary:
The Pharmacy Cashier plays a vital role in ensuring a smooth and efficient customer experience at the pharmacy. This position is responsible for handling customer transactions, assisting with inquiries, maintaining accurate cash handling practices, and supporting the pharmacy team with daily operational tasks. Key Responsibilities:
Customer Service
- Greet customers warmly and assist with their needs in a professional and courteous manner.
- Answer general questions about store products, services, and pharmacy policies (non-clinical).
- Direct customers to the appropriate team member for prescription-related inquiries.
- Resolve customer concerns or escalate them to the pharmacist or manager when necessary.
Cash Handling & Transactions
- Accurately process customer purchases, including prescription and over-the-counter medications.
- Handle cash, credit, debit, and insurance payments with precision and honesty.
- Balance the cash register at the beginning and end of shifts.
- Follow all company policies related to cash handling and loss prevention.
Pharmacy Support
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive customer and patient information in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Assist in organizing shelves, stocking OTC medications, and keeping the pharmacy area neat and clean.
- Notify pharmacy staff of any low-stock items or potential inventory issues.
- Help with clerical duties such as filing, scanning, and preparing paperwork as needed.
Compliance & Safety
- Adhere to all federal, state, and local regulations regarding pharmacy operations.
- Follow health and safety procedures to ensure a clean and safe work environment.
- Report any suspicious activity or potential theft to management immediately.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent (required).
- Previous retail, cash-handling, or customer service experience preferred.
- Experience working in a pharmacy or healthcare setting is a plus.
Skills & Abilities
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Basic math skills for handling transactions and balancing the register.
- Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
