The HR Generalist is responsible for providing comprehensive human resources support to employees and management within a fast-paced environment. This role involves day-to-day HR operations, including a strong focus on maintaining compliance with labor laws, safety regulations, company policies, and the ability to adapt HR strategies to meet the unique needs of our workforce.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Greet co-workers, employees and customers with a friendly attitude and serve our customers in a friendly, efficient manner
- Promote positive culture and ensure effective communication
- Collaborate with managers to identify staffing needs and partner with the recruitment team to develop talent pipelines for key positions.
- Talent acquisition and retention for all levels within the organization.
- Support new hire orientation and ensure smooth onboarding processes.
- Assist supervisors with development and implementation of performance management programs, including goal setting, evaluations, and feedback processes.
- Support corrective action plans, disciplinary actions, and terminations as needed, ensuring compliance with company policies and labor laws.
- Partner with the senior leaders to coordinate and deliver training programs to improve workforce skills, safety awareness, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Identify training needs within the individual teams and partner with the training teams to support employee development initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations and company policies.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records.
- Monitor time and attendance systems and ensure compliance with wage and hour laws.
- DOT Driver compliance, Fed Med tracking, Driver License tracking, PSP and MVR review
- Track training such as UST Class AB, Liquor License and ServSafe
- Assist employees with benefits-related inquiries and ensure proper enrollment and documentation.
- Support compensation planning, job evaluations, and wage adjustments.
- Payroll processing and benefit administration
- 401(k) Plan Administration & Compliance including annual auditing practices
- FMLA & Short-term disability administration
- Collaborate with safety teams on investigations as well as ensuring safe working environment in compliance with OSHA standards and company policies.
- Support accident investigations, workers' compensation claims, and safety training programs.
- Maintain and update HR information systems (HRIS) and employee records for 300 employees.
- Analyze HR data to identify trends and recommend process improvements or interventions.
- J1 Visa Interexchange program leader
- Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATION, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications:
- Education: Six years of human resource generalist experience, bachelor’s degree in human resources preferred.
- Experience: 3 years of HR generalist experience, preferably in a retail and/or transportation environment.
- Certifications: Professional certifications such as SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR are highly desirable.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Must be able to follow verbal and written directions in regard to daily reporting.
- Knowledge of labor laws, HR best practices, and employment regulations.
- Deep understanding of federal, state, and local employment laws (e.g., FMLA, FLSA, ADA, OSHA) and regulations relevant to the retail, agriculture and transportation industry.
- Excellent problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal skills for navigating sensitive issues.
- Ability to build relationships with employees, supervisors, and senior leadership to foster collaboration and engagement.
- Capacity to adapt HR practices and approaches to the unique needs of our business.
- Must be able to manage confidential information to include wage information for all personnel within the Company.
- Natural ability to lead teams thru empathy, good judgment and exceptional communication.
- Exercises proficiency with HRIS, Microsoft Office suite and other HR-related software.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Position requires this candidate to work 45 hour per week in this full-time exempt position.
Must be able to periodically lift up to 30 pounds
