Summary of Function:
The Project Engineer Intern provides support to the engineering team in areas such as new product launches, engineering changes, and process improvement initiatives. This position assists with project coordination, documentation, and data analysis related to plastic injection molding operations.
The intern works with Project Engineers, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, and Production to support project timelines, validation activities, and documentation requirements.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
The project engineer intern reports directly to the program manager and works closely with production managers, manufacturing engineers, quality engineers, and other cross-functional team members.
Experience and/or Educational Requirements:
Must be able to perform the physical demands of the position and essential functions including sitting and looking at a computer and frequently moving about the shop to gather information. Employee may be required to work up to 40 hours a week, if workload permits.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in managing new product launch activities from concept through production
- Support mold qualification, process validation (IQ/OQ/PQ), and capability studies
- Participate in mold trials, first article inspections, and production start-ups
- Coordinate project timelines, track deliverables, and provide status updates
- Assist with engineering change documentation and implementation
- Review part prints, CAD models, and tool designs for manufacturability
- Collect and analyze process data (cycle times, scrap rates, efficiency metrics)
- Support root cause investigations and corrective action activities
- Work with cross-functional teams including tooling, quality, supply chain, and production
- Maintain organized project documentation and technical reports
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Plastics Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field
- Academic or hands-on experience with plastic injection molding processes
- Basic understanding of tooling, mold design, and material properties
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Experience with scientific molding principles
- Familiarity with DOE, capability studies (Cp/Cpk), and SPC
- Exposure to CAD software (SolidWorks, Creo, or similar)
- Internship or co-op experience in a manufacturing environment
- Supporting new injection mold qualifications and validation activities
- Assisting with process improvement projects to reduce scrap or improve cycle times
- Participating in mold trials and first article inspections
- Analyzing production data to identify process trends and improvement opportunities
- Assisting engineering teams with engineering change implementations
- Observing and participating in cross-functional project meetings
- Combination of office and manufacturing floor exposure
- Interaction with automated molding equipment and tooling systems
- PPE required in production areas

Experience and/or Educational Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Some college
- Excellent written/verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- Advanced computer skills (Microsoft Office/Windows)
