JOB TITLE: Frontline Support Engineer
DURATION: 1 year contract (for conversion to direct hire): Target conversion base salary $66,400 - $74,300
Location: First few months onsite in Boston, then weekly remote rotation (every other week remote)
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Senior System Engineer is responsible for supporting research computing systems and infrastructure available to the research community, evaluating new technologies or systems, mentoring team members, engaging product stakeholders, and proposing product requirements.
This is a high-level IT Support role, and the team is willing to train on more complex troubleshooting!
MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
The role requires at least 2 years of experience in user-facing technical support and a bachelor's degree in software engineering or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Perform tasks to maintain, update and replace existing systems as needed
- Communicate project status, product requirements, write technical documentation and mentor new team members.
- Provide technical oversight of all aspects of one or more software products.
- Lead technical discussions with team members and stakeholders.
- Evaluate new technologies and their suitability to one or more projects.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Strong working knowledge of macOS, Windows, and iOS environments, including associated hardware and peripherals
- Practical experience supporting and operating within Linux-based systems and working with basic web technologies such as HTML
- Experience with endpoint and device management tools, including platforms like KACE, MobileIron, and Jamf
- Hands-on experience administering and supporting enterprise data backup and recovery solutions (e.g., CrashPlan)
- Highly service-oriented with strong troubleshooting skills and a high level of attention to detail
- Well-developed analytical, organizational, and time-management abilities, with the capacity to juggle competing priorities
- Able to perform effectively in fast-paced, high-pressure environments with limited direct supervision
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively as part of a cross-functional technical team
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work productively with stakeholders across varying levels of seniority and diverse professional backgrounds
- Demonstrated ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
