General Description:
The duties of this job require a high degree of specialized expertise and skill in maintaining established standards of quality and accuracy. Drive, determination and a self-disciplined approach to achieving results that meet these established criteria are necessary for successful job performance. While the pace of the work is faster than average, quality is never compromised. The focus of communication and organizational relationships is based on technical expertise. The work requires specialized technical problem solving and ingenuity while working within approved organizational systems and technology, and the demonstration of the values of integrity, quality and caution. New ideas and concepts are also important but will be carefully analyzed and tested before communication and adoption. If the job involves managing others, there is a need for someone who can exercise the necessary authority to assure policies and procedures are followed and time frames are met. At the same time, it will be necessary to give subordinates structured opportunity to develop their own expertise and capability for quality work to assure effective delegation and shared responsibility for work output. It is expected that coaching and training support for achieving effective delegation will be required. The position encompasses a defined span of control and opportunity for someone who engenders trust, demonstrates a sense of urgency and assures consistent achievement of quality standards. The work requires making decisions that support company guidelines authoritatively and quickly.
Key Requirements:
This hands-on position, requires knowledge of weld codes and the ability to read blueprints. Responsible for ensuring QC procedures are followed in accordance with the purchase order and/or the customer’s specifications. Key responsibilities include part inspection, document collection and verification, quarantining non-conforming material or parts, root cause analysis, and corrective action of rejections.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for performing fabrication inspections, machining inspections, and completing related QC reports.
- Work with production to ensure a flow of working is going through the shop and we are hitting our OTD.
- Inspect all parts to ensure all areas requiring machine will have correct stock to clean up.
- Read and interpret mechanical drawings.
- Perform inspections using tape measures, micrometers, calipers, thread gages, comparators, weld inspection tools, etc.
- Running a forklift and or overhead crane to set up parts for inspection.
Required Knowledge and Skill Sets:
- Excellent (English) oral and written communications skills.
- Good interpersonal skills, phone manners and the ability to work with others.
- Ability to establish positive relations with customers and vendors, as necessary.
- Basic reading and mathematical skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
- Proficient with tape measure and other measurement tools (micrometer, caliper, straight edge, etc.).
- Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and Basic Data Entry.
- Good organizational, planning and time management skills.
- Steel Manufacturing background (preferred).
- Welding/VT Inspection Experience/Certification (preferred).
- Working knowledge of AWS D1.1 / D1.4 welding code (preferred).
