Clinical Laboratory Aide PRN-Evening Shift As needed

Job Overview

MedTech Clinical Laboratory is seeking a dependable, detail-oriented Laboratory Aide to support our clinical laboratory team. This Evening shift PRN position is responsible for specimen processing, laboratory technologist support, documentation, cleaning, inventory, environmental monitoring, and maintaining an organized and efficient laboratory environment.

The Laboratory Aide works under the direction of the Laboratory Supervisor, Laboratory Manager, or designated qualified laboratory personnel and works closely with Medical Technologists and other laboratory staff.

This is an excellent opportunity for an individual who wants to gain experience in a clinical laboratory and contribute to quality patient care.

Responsibilities

Specimen Processing & Laboratory Support

• Receive, sort, organize, transport, and prepare specimens according to laboratory procedures.
• Transfer specimens into appropriately labeled secondary tubes or containers when authorized.
• Perform specimen aliquoting according to established laboratory procedures.
• Transport specimens from accessioning to the appropriate laboratory department while maintaining specimen identification and integrity.
• Assist with specimen preparation, storage, and referral testing.
• Assist with centrifugation and other pre-analytic procedures when specifically trained and authorized.
• Identify and promptly report specimen issues such as labeling discrepancies, leakage, insufficient quantity, or improper containers.
• Maintain appropriate specimen handling and chain-of-custody procedures when applicable.
• Scan and document specimens and associated records in the laboratory information system or designated scanning system.
• Provide routine support to Medical Technologists and other qualified laboratory personnel.
• Make slides for Manual CBC differential count.
• Run Urinalysis samples on clinitek Status and spin positive samples in the centrifuge for microscopic analysis

Laboratory Documentation & Records

• File and organize laboratory records and instrument printouts.
• Properly label and store instrument printouts according to laboratory section, analyzer, test, and date range.
• File patient result printouts and other laboratory documentation.
• Organize calibration, quality control, maintenance, temperature, humidity, and other laboratory records.
• Scan laboratory documents into the appropriate electronic system.
• Maintain records in an organized, accurate, legible, and retrievable manner.
• Report missing or incomplete documentation to the Laboratory Supervisor.

Laboratory Cleaning & Safety

• Clean, disinfect, and maintain laboratory benches, designated equipment, and assigned work areas according to laboratory SOPs.
• Discard old Urine and Blood samples
• Maintain clean, stocked, and organized work areas.
• Follow appropriate procedures for handling potentially infectious or contaminated materials.
• Use appropriate PPE and follow laboratory safety and infection-control procedures.
• Dispose of laboratory waste and contaminated materials according to established procedures.
• Immediately report spills, exposure incidents, equipment concerns, or unsafe conditions to laboratory leadership.

Temperature & Environmental Monitoring

• Monitor designated refrigerators, freezers, laboratory rooms, and other areas for required temperature and humidity conditions.
• Record temperature and humidity readings accurately and at the required frequency.
• Report out-of-range environmental conditions immediately to the Laboratory Supervisor or designated laboratory personnel.
• Document corrective actions when assigned and permitted by laboratory procedures.
• Maintain accurate laboratory records and never alter or falsify documentation.

Help managing Supplies & Inventory

• Receive and organize laboratory supplies and reagents.
• Inspect deliveries for obvious damage or discrepancies and report concerns.
• Store supplies and reagents in their designated locations according to manufacturer requirements and laboratory SOPs.
• Assist with inventory counts and monitor supply levels.
• Notify laboratory leadership when supplies are approaching established reorder levels.
• Assist with supply ordering and inventory documentation when assigned.
• Maintain an organized supply area to support efficient laboratory operations.

Quality & Compliance

• Follow laboratory SOPs, safety procedures, infection-control requirements, and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and protect patient information.
• Follow proper specimen and patient identification procedures.
• Report errors, discrepancies, safety concerns, or potential quality issues promptly.
• Participate in required training and competency assessments applicable to assigned duties.
• Perform only duties for which the employee has been appropriately trained, authorized, and deemed competent.
• Maintain professional communication and teamwork with laboratory personnel.

Testing Responsibilities

CLIA-Waived Testing

A Laboratory Aide may perform a CLIA-waived test only when specifically authorized by the laboratory and after completing the required training and competency assessment for that test.

All testing must be performed according to the applicable laboratory SOP, manufacturer's instructions, quality requirements, and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

Required:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferrably with an Associate degree.
• Previous clinical laboratory experience.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Ability to follow written procedures and instructions accurately.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of patient information.
• Dependable attendance and punctuality.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a clinical laboratory team.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy.
• Willingness to learn laboratory procedures and responsibilities.Preferred:
• Laboratory Aide experience.
• Specimen processing or accessioning experience.
• Hospital or physician-office laboratory experience.
• Healthcare or medical experience.

Physical & Work Environment

The position is performed in a clinical laboratory environment. The employee may be required to:

• Stand and walk for extended periods.
• Handle laboratory specimens and supplies.

• Wear appropriate PPE.
• Work around potentially infectious biological materials in accordance with laboratory safety procedures.

Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour
