Job Purpose
The Supervisor, Financial Counseling will supervise the effective and efficient operation of Financial Services and Clinic Registration. Must be organized and efficient, highly motivated, pleasant but firm personality and ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Participate in department-based or hospital-based committees, if applicable
- Attend all hospital and departmental mandatory in-services, trainings and meetings
- Responsible for tracking time and attendance, performance evaluations and other duties associated with the management of employees
- Actively suggest, implement, document and participate in departmental quality improvement activities
- Assure quality of care and services by adhering to industry standards and measuring health outcomes against patient care goals and benchmarks established by the organization
- Stay aware of any local, state and federal regulations and guidelines which may affect eligibility
- Assist hospital personnel and staff physicians with any questions on hospital credit and charity programs
- Ensure all patients from the clinics, private physician office's, inpatient and pre-admitted self-pay patients are referred to the Financial Assistance Department for determination of eligibility for local, federal, and state programs and that applications are delivered to DHS by the interviewer. Inform Admissions Director of any patients found not to be eligible for assistance.
- Interview Special Delivery program patients for eligibility and obtain all necessary information and documentation
- Refer problem accounts to appropriate personnel
- Utilize the Epic system to assist with managing accounts and completing and maintaining work queues and reports
- Make daily deposits to the cashier office from the clinic and financial assistant area
- Manage the retro authorization process
- Use, protect and disclose patients’ protected health information (PHI) only in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards
- Understand and comply with Information Security and HIPAA policies and procedures at all times
- Limit viewing of PHI to the absolute minimum as necessary to perform assigned duties
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- 2 years of hospital business office experience required
- Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate well at all levels of the organization
- Strong problem solving and creative skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses
- High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results oriented
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
- Gracious and welcoming personality for customer service interaction
- Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to move around the work area; Sit; perform manual tasks; operate tools and other office equipment such as computer, computer peripherals and telephones; extend arms; kneel; talk and hear. Perform light lifting (up to 15 pounds).
- Mental Demands: The employee must be able to follow directions, collaborate with others, and handle stress.
- Work Environment: Works in a well-lighted/ventilated office setting. Subject to frequent interruptions. Minimal occupational exposure to infectious diseases, blood borne pathogens, hazardous chemicals, noxious odors, latex, or musculoskeletal injuries. Operate Office machines properly and in accordance with Hospital safety standards. Ability to work in accordance with Hospital Safety Standards.
