Position Summary

Assists Director, Employee Health Services in carrying out and developing comprehensive programs for Employee Health, Wellness and Medical Clinics for all locations of Commonwealth Health Corporation (Med Center Health) in accordance with Federal, State, Centers for Disease Control (CDC), American’s with Disability Act (ADA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Worker’s Compensation laws/requirements/recommendations for Health Care Workers (HCW).

Minimum Qualifications

Work Experience
-
Three years of RN experience with demonstrated leadership skills required.

Previous RN experience in Employee Health/Occupational Health, Community Health, Infection Control or Hospital Acute Care preferred.

Education-
Graduate of an accredited Nursing program required.
-
Bachelor’s degree in nursing or related field preferred.

Certifications/Licensure-
Kentucky RN license (OR) RN license in a State recognized by the Kentucky Nurse Licensure Compact Act required effective June 1, 2007.

Certification as Occupational Health Nurse preferred.

Job Specific Performance Standards

The duties listed below are a summary of the major essential functions of this position. The position may require other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned, and specific functions may change from time to time.
- Carries out the Respiratory Protection/Fit Testing and TB/Immunization Programs in accordance with Med Center Health Policy and Procedure, OSHA, Med Center Health and state regulations. Maintains files and carries out department policies and protocols in coordination with Infection Control for communicable disease exposures.
- Assesses and makes referrals for work related and non-work related illness and injury per Standards of Clinical Nursing Practice guidelines, as well as Med Center Health policy and procedures governing work related and non-work related illness and injury. Performs return to work evaluations and conducts follow up to assure the timely and safe return to work for employees in accordance to physical demands of the position and in accordance with the Med Center Health Substance Abuse Policy.
- Performs case management in coordination with Workers Compensation function for work related and non-work related illness and injury. Provides assistance and advice to employees, Human Resources staff members, Department Directors/Managers, and Risk Management regarding employees with restrictions and special needs. Implements the Temporary Alternative Duty (TAD) Policy and Agreement when needed.
- Carries out Med Center Health Pre-Placement Assessment policy and procedures to include office visits, immunization and Hepatitis B immunization assessment, procedures and appropriate follow up of candidates with restrictions and special needs. Assesses the potential employee’s health history and ability to perform the essential duties of position to the physical demands of the position and in accordance with the Med Center Health Substance Abuse Policy.
- Provides guidance and assistance with employee requests for assistance per telephone calls, walk in office visits, ‘on call’ consultation and follow up services as needed for Employee Health services. Provides support to employees and refers to other support systems as necessary.
- Provides guidance and direction to Employee Health Assistant, PRN staff and volunteers in delegation of tasks/activities/projects and completion of work, work schedules and work assignments within established policies and procedures of Med Center Health.

Supports operation of Employee Medical Clinic:

Follows practitioner orders and procedures when administering medications in performing procedures and treatments. Documents in patient record, to Superbill and does data entry.

Triages patients and assists with preparation for examinations and special procedures, gives treatments per Medical Director protocols. Performs venipuncture, capillary, and other selected specimen collections and process specimens per orders.

Coordinates patient follow-up and referral care. Identifies chronic patients and evaluates their medical needs and progress. Collaboratively works with the Medical Director and ARNP in determining patient’s plan of care. Maintains patient records in a timely manner. Communicates patient information with healthcare providers as necessary and accurately documents pertinent patient information.

Inspects, maintains, troubleshoots, and runs quality control on equipment, supplies and reagents utilized to assure validity of function and results.
- Orders medical, pharmacy and lab supplies and reports equipment problems and needs to the Director. Insures cleanliness and preparedness of exam rooms before each use in accordance with infection control principles.

- Participates in Infection Control and Safety Committee activities and established programs as assigned by the Employee Health Manager, including data collection and preparation of monthly reports.
