Title: Substitute School Bus Driver
Start date: As soon as possible
Classification/FLSA: Non-Union, Non-exempt
Duration: As needed basis - AM and PM route
Reports to: Transportation Director
Location: Mecosta-Osceola ISD
Position Summary: The Substitute School Bus Driver is an essential part of the MOISD team, providing safe and reliable transportation to ensure that every child receives a quality public education.
Professional Requirements / Education and Experience
- Preference is given to a candidate who has experience and or training with special needs children.
- Minimum of high school diploma.
- Must possess, or be able to obtain, all certificates, licenses, endorsements, and permits as required for a school bus driver by state and local authorities: Valid Michigan driver’s license, Commercial Driver License (CDL), Air Brake Endorsement, (P) Passenger Endorsement & (S) School Bus Endorsement
- Must be at least 18 years of age with a clean driving record.
- Familiarity with vehicle maintenance best practices.
- Knowledge of safety standards, laws, codes, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures relating to pupiltransportation.
- Must consent to and pass pre-employment and random drug/alcohol testing and DOT physical.
- Must pass a criminal history background investigation conducted by the Michigan State Police (MSP) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Essential Duties
- Flexible and willing to adapt to changing situations and conditions while maintaining a positive attitude.
- Ability to work in harmony with fellow employees and the public at large.
- Effectively make decisions quickly and displaying good judgment.
- Excellent navigational ability, including reading and interpreting GPS and physical road and street maps.
- Ability to lift up to 60 pounds and in good physical condition.
- Contribute positively to the overall quality and operation of the transportation department.
- Complete pre-trip inspections and maintain bus safety and hygiene standards.
- Additional duties as assigned by the Transportation Director.
Compensation: $24.50 - 25.50 hourly
