Duration: Full-time school year position| 208 days/year, 7.5 hours/day
Reports to: Special Education Supervisor
Location: Mecosta-Osceola Education Center
DESCRIPTION: The Secretary serves as the primary point of contact for the Mecosta-Osceola Education Center, providing exceptional customer service while performing a variety of administrative duties and project-based tasks that support the efficient and timely operation of MOISD programs.
Professional Requirements / Education and Experience
- Associate degree from an accredited two-year college or technical school preferred.
- Minimum of five (5) years of related administrative experience, preferably in a school or educational setting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion when handling sensitive information.
- Keyboarding proficiency of at least 60 words per minute.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), Google Workspace, and web-based applications.
- Experience operating a multi-line telephone system.
- Strong organizational, mathematical, and basic accounting or calculator skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Must possess a valid Michigan driver’s license.
- Must pass a criminal history background investigation conducted by the Michigan State Police (MSP) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Essential Duties
- Serve as the primary point of contact for the Education Center, providing exceptional customer service to staff, local districts, parents, students, community members, vendors, and visitors.
- Answer, screen, and route incoming telephone calls and distribute mail accurately across multiple building locations.
- Enter, maintain, and retrieve accurate information within multiple databases and information systems.
- Prepare correspondence, reports, forms, and other documents with a high degree of accuracy.
- Assist with meeting coordination, including scheduling, preparation of materials, room setup, and cleanup.
- Operate, maintain, and perform minor troubleshooting of office equipment and machines.
- Function as the radio dispatcher for MOISD bus drivers by communicating route information and messages with drivers and parents.
- Cross-train in Education Center secretarial responsibilities to ensure continuity of operations during staff absences.
- Establish and maintain positive, cooperative working relationships with staff, administrators, local district personnel, parents, and the public.
- Demonstrate initiative, sound judgment, problem-solving skills, and the ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities while meeting deadlines with minimal supervision.
- Maintain confidentiality of student, personnel, and organizational information in accordance with applicable laws and district policies.
- Stay informed of current practices, technologies, and procedures related to school administrative support.
- Maintain regular, reliable attendance and independently travel to assigned work locations as required.
- Work flexible hours or overtime when necessary to meet organizational needs.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee.
Compensation: $21.36 - $27.25 hourly
