Title: Behavior Coach

Duration: 190 days / 7 hours per day
Reports to: Early Childhood Director
Location: Hillcrest Early Childhood Center
Position Summary: The Early Childhood Behavior Coach is a key leader in supporting high-quality, inclusive early childhood environments through the implementation of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), with a focus on the Pyramid Model. The PBIS Coach will provide observation, feedback, and coaching to Early Childhood classrooms in partnership with local districts and community partner subrecipients. The Coach will work closely with teaching teams, program leaders, and families to enhance social-emotional development and promote positive behavior for all children.
Professional Requirements / Education and Experience
● Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, child development, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
● Five or more years of relevant job experience in early childhood education, behavior support, special education, or social-emotional development is preferred.
● Must pass a criminal history background investigation conducted by the Michigan State Police (MSP) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
● Meet the requirements/responsibilities as outlined in the MOISD coaching framework and the Pyramid Model framework, which include:
● Using observation tools and coaching strategies to assess and enhance classroom practices related to social-emotional development and behavior guidance.
● Providing on-site technical assistance to local school districts' early childhood programs to support high-quality implementation of PBIS practices.
● Attending professional development events such as regional Pyramid Model training, MiLEAP-sponsored professional learning, EPLI START training, and other state conferences relevant to PBIS and early childhood.
● Planning and delivering professional development and training experiences for teachers focused on universal design for learning, social-emotional learning, trauma-informed care, and behavior support.
● Assisting with data collection, analysis, and reporting to support classroom goal setting, continuous improvement, and the development and implementation of positive behavior support plans.
● Partner with families to share and reinforce strategies that promote skill development and positive behavioral supports.
● Serving as a liaison between MOISD, local school districts, and community partners to promote collaboration around early childhood PBIS efforts.
● Supporting the development and implementation of program-wide PBIS initiatives in collaboration with program leadership teams.
● Participate in team meetings, group consultations, and general classroom observation to discuss the effectiveness of instructional strategies.
● Guide teams through the referral process and support collaborative decision-making when more restrictive support is being considered beyond the least restrictive environment.
● Regular, in-person attendance.
● Perform other duties deemed necessary and appropriate as assigned.
● Valid driver’s license.
Compensation: $52,000.00 - $63,000.00 Commensurate with credentials and level of experience.
