Job Overview

Under the supervision of the County Treasurer, collects money for delinquent property taxes, computes and prepares delinquent tax statements, provides information regarding tax matters to the public, issues dog licenses and collects fees, certifies tax deeds, conducts tax searches, receives and accounts for revenues from other county departments, and performs a variety of other activities related to processing and maintaining tax records. Acts for the County Treasurer in the absence of that official.

Duties

  • As the chief deputy, assists the County Treasurer in all aspects of the office and acts for the Treasurer in the absence of that official. Includes processing the daily cash, processing County Road cash transfers, and performing other designated functions.
  • Collects money for delinquent taxes, and posts to appropriate accounts and tax roll books. Collects money for dog licenses, plat books and other matters handled by the Treasurer’s office.
  • Calculates end of the month balancing of payment receipts with tax rolls and computer and maintains spreadsheet so as to keep an ongoing balance of delinquent taxes owed for each year and for each township. Works with the Treasurers of the local units to balance their delinquent tax rolls.
  • Receives transmittals for county departments. Runs tape on all checks and cash, verifies deposit or follows-up on discrepancies, enters transmittal information to computer with proper account number, and totals and verifies daily receipts.
  • Assist with the monthly closing process, ensuring accurate general ledger reconciliation, account analysis, and timely financial statement preparation.
  • Coordinate with auditors during audits, providing necessary documentation related to governmental accounting, nonprofit accounting, or other specialized financial areas.
  • Excellent organizational skills with a focus on detail-oriented tasks like balance sheet reconciliation and account analysis.

Pay: From $56,140.00 per year
