  • Starting pay (based on experience): $21.01 - $23.61 per hour

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assess patients’ conditions, obtain medical histories, and perform physical examinations to determine appropriate care.
  • Based on medical protocols and assessment of patient condition, provides basic life support; including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), controlling bleeding, applying bandages, application of splints, obtaining vital signs, and administering oxygen, medications, and other medical interventions as required within scope of practice.
  • Responds to instructions from emergency medical dispatchers, drives specially equipped emergency vehicles safely to specified locations and is proficient in mapping and navigational skills.
  • Delivers independent EMT-level care and collaborates with ALS providers when assigned.
  • Provides ALS providers with clinical support for patients requiring higher levels of care.
  • Accurately and comprehensively document patient information, medical interventions performed, response details, and other pertinent information in electronic patient care report. Ensures that documentation is complete and in compliance with legal and regulatory standards.
  • Provides medical care and therapeutic communication for patients experiencing psychiatric crisis, including those with suicidal or homicidal ideation
  • Participates in emergency scene management, coordinating with other emergency services and ensuring effective communication with patients and families.
  • Safely transfer patients to medical facilities, adhering to established protocols and ensuring their well-being during transportation.
  • Communicate effectively with coworkers and hospital staff to provide essential patient information and ensure smooth transfer of care.
  • Reports any medical equipment or vehicle issues to appropriate persons for prompt resolution.
  • Attend mandatory training sessions and continuing education programs to stay current with advances in emergency medical techniques, protocols, and regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • H.S. Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Current EMT-B Certification
  • Must complete FEMA classes IS-100, IS-200, IS-700 and IS-800.
  • Valid NC/SC Drivers License 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Maintain insurability with Agency's insurance carrier
  • Show proficiency with Agency approved driving course
  • Must comply with annual respiratory fit testing
  • Must maintain all mandatory con-ed/in-service training
  • Medically fit for duty as determined by Agency appointed physicians (able to perform essential functions of positions with or without reasonable accommodation and without posing a threat of harm to self or others)
  • Able to work flexible hours; able to work holidays, nights, and weekends
  • This position is considered a critical function within the Agency; subject to call back and overtime if required
  • Must be able to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods; must be able to adjust to maintain clinical ability regardless of the treatment scene; have dexterity to use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands, and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.  Employee must be capable of safely operating and driving a commercial vehicle in a high-stress environment.
