Position Overview
We are seeking a Paint and Prep Technician to join our machine shop team. This role is responsible for surface preparation and industrial painting of components, fabricated structures, and repaired equipment. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and takes pride in delivering a clean, professional finish on every project.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare metal surfaces for painting using hand tools, grinders, sanders, and appropriate cleaning agents
- Sand blasting
- Mask and protect surfaces as required prior to coating
- Mix and apply industrial primers and topcoats using spray equipment
- Ensure proper drying, curing, and coating thickness in accordance with specifications
- Follow all safety guidelines, including proper PPE use and ventilation requirements
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
- Operate forklift
- Assist with material handling and other shop tasks as needed
- Basic rigging skills
- Collaborate with welders, machinists, and supervisors to meet production schedules and project deadlines
Qualifications
- 1 year of industrial painting or surface preparation experience preferred
- Experience with epoxy, enamel, or other industrial coatings is a plus
- Familiarity with surface preparation tools and equipment
- Ability to read and follow work orders and technical instructions
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods
- Valid driver’s license preferred
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screening
