PROGRAM ASSISTANT-PART TIME

General Summary

Assist program staff and volunteers with packaging and delivery of meals; client eligibility assessments and reassessments; volunteer coordination and maintenance of accurate records for Meals 4 Kids participants and volunteers. Responsible for administrative tasks as assigned.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions)

• Perform Meals on Wheels delivery duties for routes lacking volunteer coverage in assigned service area
  • Ensure the proper packing and on-time delivery of meals to program participants by following all standards
  • Follow up with participant if driver is unable to deliver the meal. Redeliver meals as necessary
• Assist with re-packing of bulk food items for distribution to families
• Assist with client eligibility assessments and annual reassessments as needed
• Assist with volunteer coordination as needed
• Complete administrative tasks as assigned
• Participate in in-service training and attend required meetings
• Other duties as assigned

Education & Knowledge

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Valid Food Handler’s Certification or ability to obtain within two weeks
• Valid driver’s license, auto insurance and transportation required

Skills, Abilities & Experience

• Ability to work with and coordinate volunteers
• Strong organizational, record keeping, time management and multi-tasking skills including the ability to set priorities and be flexible to last-minute changes 
• Ability to work in a team environment and effectively communicate with diverse populations including minority, low income and persons with disabilities
• Ability to repetitively move 35lbs; routinely moves cooler and cooler bags from one location to another and from various heights in preparation of and for the completion of meal delivery; ability to ascend stairs and move around on city sidewalks
• Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn new computer programs; experience with client data management systems a plus

Any satisfactory combination of experience, training and/or education which ensures the ability to perform the work may substitute for the above qualifications.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands

• Fast paced, with significant people interaction
• Frequent driving throughout service area
• Frequent navigation of sidewalks, apartment buildings and stairways
• May be required to move up to 50lbs, 35lbs repetitively and ability to frequently position self to stoop, bend and crouch
• Sitting for short periods of time and typing
• Dexterity of hands and fingers required for operation of general office equipment
• Must pass pre-employment screening
