Position Title: Financial Reporting Specialist

Reports to: Controller, Director of Accounting

Location: Atlanta, GA (*On-site )

  • Incumbent must work in office in Atlanta four (4) days per week and may work remotely one (1) day per week with manager approval

Summary

Position is responsible for the preparation of MEAG Power’s annual and quarterly financial reports for public release/disclosure as well as applicable annual and quarterly public disclosures pertaining to Participant data required by bond disclosure agreements, Power Sales contracts and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE).

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities

The scope and duties of this position may change or be temporarily altered based on the business needs of MEAG Power. General responsibilities include:

  • Prepares MEAG Power’s annual consolidated financials (Annual Financials) for inclusion in the Annual Report and Annual Information Statement (AIS) in coordination/communication with management and staff, attorneys, external auditors, and the design company (for the Annual Report), as well as presenting to the Risk Management Audit Committee of the Board of Directors
  • Maintains a database of certain Participant financial/other information, as well as Participants’ audited financial statements, (Participant Information) and uses such data to prepare Quarterly Participant Reports (QPR) and AIS disclosures to comply with requirements of the Continuing Disclosure Agreements of MEAG Power’s outstanding bonds. This involves communication with management, attorneys, bond Trustees and the Participants.
  • Files the following with MEAG Power’s bond Trustees and the Municipal Securities Rulemaking Board in accordance with SEC Rule 15c2-12:
  • Annual Financials in accordance with applicable bond resolutions
  • QPRs in accordance with Continuing Disclosure Agreements.
  • Prepares MEAG Power’s Vogtle Units 3&4 Project Entities’ (SPVs) financials (annually) in accordance with timelines specified by Loan Guarantee Agreements with the DOE.
  • Prepares MEAG Power’s quarterly reports for the first, second and third quarters of each year in accordance with timelines specified by the DOE and applicable credit agreements.
  • Prepares and/or reviews for content/accuracy applicable MEAG Power financial or Participant-related disclosures in the AIS and MEAG Power’s Official Statements for bond issuance.
  • Coordinates with the external auditors to facilitate their preparation of a comfort letter, which is part of the documents required for each bond closing. This involves communication/coordination with management and staff, MEAG Power and underwriter attorneys, as well as the external auditors. Certain Participant Information may also be needed for bond closings.
  • Monitors and evaluates developments pertaining to accounting pronouncements issued by the Financial Accounting Standards Board and the Governmental Accounting Standards Board, which may impact MEAG Power’s financial statements or disclosures; determines accounting treatment/disclosures needed for compliance, as applicable.
  • Provides MEAG Power financial or Participant Information as requested for special projects by management or bond rating agencies (Fitch, Moody’s or S&P)
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting with at least 10-12 years of related experience demonstrating a progression in responsibilities
  • Knowledge and subject matter expertise is required to perform the position’s complete responsibilities.
  • A CPA designation and at least 5 years of utility accounting experience is preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal skills commensurate for public disclosure documents, as well as correspondence with senior management, financial and legal professionals
  • Maturity/judgment to work with and maintain significant confidential information
  • Detail-oriented
  • Ability to manage tasks to meet specific and required deadlines
  • Ability to “think on your feet” and adjust to and/or make decisions under time constraints
