What are the responsibilities and job description for the BREASTFEEDING PEER COUNSELOR - WIC position at MEADVILLE MEDICAL CENTER?
JOB DUTIES
Counsels WIC pregnant and breastfeeding women using "Best Start" or other assigned methods, policies/procedures, and documents such following appropriate policies/procedures.
Attends and assists with prenatal and breastfeeding support groups. May facilitate such groups, if assigned.
Makes routine, periodic contacts with all clients as assigned/directed.
Responds to requests for information or referrals of clients in a timely manner.
Makes appropriate referrals.
Completes all reports, logs, etc. as assigned in a timely manner.
Successfully passes proficiency tests. In addition, participates in additional training as assigned.
May prepare forms, education pieces, and research breastfeeding information as assigned.
Assists in the implementation the Nutrition Education, Breastfeeding Promotion, Outreach Plans and other goals and objectives of the agency. Assists as needed, in development of these plans and their evaluation. Assists with WIC appointments, data collection, and reception.
MINIMUM EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
High School Diploma or GED.
Has successfully breastfed at least one infant for at least 6 months (does not have to be currently breastfeeding).
Preferably a current or past WIC Participant.
Current BLS Healthcare Provider card.
