As the Director of Medical Records you will manage the daily operations of the Medical Records Department. Consult with staff on medical records and transcription issues. Maintain approved levels of security and confidentiality of records and data. Manage the electronic health information system. Develop and implement company-wide trainings for use of the electronic health information system. Hire, orient, train and supervise Medical Records staff.
Essential Duties Include:
- Medical Records
- Coordinate analysis of data to ensure records meet regulatory and company standards / policies / procedures, protocols, as well as industry best practices.
- Coordinate assembly of records / data in established format in a manner consistent with laws, regulations and company policy.
- Coordinate with managers/leadership to ensure documentation is completed as per policies, procedures, protocols and best practice standards.
- Release of Information / Privacy
- Coordinate release of information processes in a manner consistent with security and confidentiality laws, regulations and company policy.
- Electronic Health Information System
- Works with IT to make sure staff have the appropriate levels of access within the electronic health information system to perform tasks assigned.
- Other
- Ability to converse with others in English to give, take and process information; extensive use of telephone.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of information, multi-task, coordinate projects and record/transcribe general and specific meeting minutes.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Communicate with other staff in relaying concerns and observations involving patient safety.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- RHIA or RHIT certification preferred
- Extensive knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements of health information management, (including, but not limited to multiple state, ASAM, and The Joint Commission).
- Minimum of 4 years experience in a hospital or clinical health information management setting strongly preferred.
