Role Description
The Staff Accountant must be detail-oriented and experienced in accounts payable, payroll, and union reporting within a commercial HVAC construction environment. This role is responsible for managing purchase orders, accounts payable, payroll, union reporting, and certified payroll. The Staff Accountant will ensure the timely and accurate processing of payroll, issuance of purchase orders, and completion of union reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the full accounts payable cycle, including invoice processing, vendor reconciliations, and timely payments.
- Prepare, review, and process weekly payroll for field and office employees.
- Ensure accuracy of certified payroll reports and timely submission to the appropriate agencies.
- Handle union reporting, including monthly fringe benefit reporting and reconciliation.
- Issue and track purchase orders, ensuring compliance with company policies and project budgets.
- Maintain accurate job cost and general ledger records in coordination with project management.
- Collaborate with project managers, HR, and vendors to resolve billing or payroll discrepancies.
- Recommend and implement process improvements for efficiency and accuracy.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor and tax regulations.
- Perform other related accounting duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA, CMA or MBA preferred).
- 4 years of experience in accounting, preferably in the construction industry.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Foundation, Viewpoint, Sage, or QuickBooks).
- Strong understanding of accounts payable, payroll, certified payroll, and union reporting processes.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Excellent Excel skills and financial reporting capabilities.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of GAAP and job cost accounting principles.
- Experience with lien releases, retention tracking, and vendor compliance.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
Salary Range
$75,000 – $85,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
