Job Summary:
The Laboratory Assistant position is part of a structured training program designed for recent graduates with a bachelor's degree or higher in science. This program aims to prepare candidates for full-time Medical Technologist roles in a high-complexity CLIA laboratory. The candidate will undergo six months of hands-on training under the supervision of experienced medical technologists and supervisors. Upon successful completion, the candidate will be eligible for a promotion to a Medical Technologist position, with a three-year employment commitment and a non-compete agreement.
The position offers comprehensive training, access to learning resources, and opportunities to gain the necessary competencies and certifications to work independently in a high-complexity laboratory. Candidates are expected to commit to the program's terms, including training repayment in case of early termination.
Key Responsibilities:
Training and Development:
- Participate in a six-month training program designed to provide hands-on experience in laboratory operations and procedures.
- Gain expertise in laboratory disciplines such as chemistry, hematology, microbiology, and blood banking under supervision.
- Learn and follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) for specimen processing, testing, quality control, and reporting.
- Complete all required coursework, training materials, and competency assessments as scheduled.
- Collaborate with preceptors and supervisors to enhance knowledge and technical skills in laboratory testing and instrumentation.
Laboratory Operations:
- Assist medical technologists and lab supervisors with routine tasks, including specimen collection, labeling, and preparation for analysis.
- Perform laboratory tests and procedures under direct supervision to build technical expertise.
- Maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring it is clean, calibrated, and ready for use.
- Follow safety protocols and comply with regulatory standards from agencies such as CLIA, CAP, NJDOH, and The Joint Commission.
Documentation and Compliance:
- Maintain accurate records of all laboratory activities, including test results, quality control data, and maintenance logs.
- Assist in ensuring compliance with laboratory policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in laboratory audits, proficiency testing, and inspections as needed.
Professional Development:
- Attend training sessions, workshops, and staff meetings as required by the program.
- Demonstrate continuous improvement by applying feedback from supervisors and preceptors.
- Work toward meeting the eligibility requirements for medical technologist licensure in accordance with state and federal regulations.
Training Program Completion and Career Path:
Upon successful completion of the six-month training program, the candidate will be eligible for promotion to a full-time Medical Technologist position. At this point, the following terms will apply:
- Three-Year Employment Commitment: The candidate must commit to working at Hudson Regional Hospital for three years.
- Training Repayment: If the candidate leaves before the completion of the three-year commitment, they will be required to repay the cost of the training program based on a prorated schedule.
- Non-Compete Agreement: The candidate will agree not to work for competing laboratories or healthcare facilities within a specified geographic area for the duration of the commitment period.
Qualifications:
Education:
