Position Summary

ME Global is seeking a hands-on Foundry Design Engineer to support the design, development, and continuous improvement of cast metal components, tooling, patterns, gating systems, risering, and manufacturing processes.


This position is ideal for an engineer who enjoys solving production challenges, collaborating with manufacturing teams, and developing practical casting solutions from concept through production. You will work closely with Engineering, Quality, Production, the Pattern Shop, and customers to ensure castings meet dimensional, metallurgical, quality, and cost objectives.


Key Responsibilities

  • Review customer drawings, specifications, and 3D models for manufacturability.
  • Design and improve casting layouts, patterns, core boxes, gating systems, risers, chills, and tooling.
  • Create and modify CAD models and manufacturing drawings.
  • Support mold filling and solidification simulations to improve casting quality and reduce scrap.
  • Troubleshoot casting defects, dimensional issues, and production concerns with manufacturing and quality teams.
  • Recommend design improvements that increase castability and reduce manufacturing costs.
  • Support new product launches, sample castings, process documentation, and production standards.
  • Assist estimating and quoting by evaluating tooling, cores, yields, weights, heat treatment, and finishing requirements.
  • Maintain engineering documentation and product master data.
  • Promote a culture focused on safety, quality, and continuous improvement.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience in a metal foundry, casting operation, pattern shop, tooling environment, or heavy manufacturing preferred.
  • Knowledge of sand casting processes, mold design, cores, gating, risering, shrinkage, solidification, heat treatment, and casting defects.
  • Experience with CAD software including SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor, Creo, or similar.
  • Experience with casting simulation software such as MAGMASOFT is a plus.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and customer specifications.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and project management skills.
  • Comfortable working in both office and foundry production environments.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work effectively across multiple departments.
