What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Faculty position at MDI Biological Laboratory?
The Mount Desert Island Biological Laboratory in Bar Harbor, Maine, invites applications for a Senior Faculty position in the Kathryn W. Davis Center for Regenerative Biology and Aging. Established over 125 years ago, MDI Bio Lab is a renowned research institution located on the coast of Maine, adjacent to Acadia National Park, and in proximity to The Jackson Laboratory. Our vibrant community comprises 10 year-round research labs and collaborating visiting summer scientists that utilize Drosophila, C. elegans, axolotl, zebrafish, African turquoise killifish and other non-mammalian animal models to study development, regeneration and aging. MDI Bio Lab is also the hub for the Maine INBRE program grant that supports research and work force development at 14 educational institutions state-wide. MDI Bio Lab faculty members benefit from state-of-the-art core facilities in bioinformatics, microscopy and animal models in addition to grant writing and administrative support. The microscopy core is among the best in the Northeast region, and new imaging systems include spinning disc, two-photon, super-resolution confocals and a new MesoSPIM lightsheet microscope.
Candidates with national or international recognition for research using non-mammalian organisms to address fundamental biological questions in the areas of stem cell and tissue regeneration, germline development, ribonucleoprotein (RNP) assemblies and aging are particularly suited for this position. Candidates applying data science and artificial intelligence approaches to biological problems are also encouraged to apply. Candidates will be expected to mentor Ph.D. students and postdoctoral fellows, teach laboratory-based undergraduate short courses, participate in summer student research programs, foster visiting scientist collaborations and join the leadership team for the Maine INBRE program grant.
