The Production Planner will plan, schedule, and monitor the movement of material through manufacturing. They will analyze material requirements for production schedules and plan an efficient production flow based on material availability and capacity. Coordinates the efficient movement of materials with Purchasing, Manufacturing, Quality, Engineering, and Customer Service.

- Manage and prioritize manufacturing flow through the creation and maintenance of production work orders.
- Analyze short and long-term constraints and make recommendations for resolution to maintain on-time delivery goals.
- Coordinate with stakeholders to expedite the flow of materials to meet production schedules and customer expectations.
- Provide frequent updates to stakeholders advising on the status of WIP, material availability, and potential risk.
- Review and evaluate clear to build, production progress, build output goals and manage WIP.
- Make suggestions for process improvement opportunities.
- Manages scrap or rework activities resulting from engineering change orders.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Verifies nomenclature and specifications of purchase requisitions.
- Consults catalogs and interviews suppliers to obtain prices and specifications
- Enters purchase order in computer system and sends copy to supplier and department originating request
- Compiles records of items purchased or transferred between departments, prices, deliveries, and inventories
- Computes total cost of items purchased.
- Confers with suppliers concerning late deliveries
- Compares prices, specifications, and delivery dates and awards contract to bidders or places orders with suppliers or mail order firms
- Assists the technical sales department personnel in the quoting process
- Develop, revise and maintain production schedules to ensure timely shipments of all products as specified in the Master Schedule related to specified product line(s).
- Create and maintain all manufacturing work orders related to specified product line(s)
- Plans and schedules workflow for each department and operation according to previously established manufacturing sequences and lead times ? Create, maintain, and revise "soft" manufacturing routings on an as needed basis.
- Confers with department supervisors to determine status of assigned projects
- Expedites operations that delay schedules and alters schedules to meet unforeseen conditions, prepares production reports
- Assist in creation of written procedures and ensure compliance as related to all production planning activities.
- Prepares purchase requisition to obtain materials, tools, and equipment related to assigned products line(s).
Education and experience
Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management Logistics, Business Administration, Production Management, and/or 5 years or more relevant experience.
Skills
- 2 to 5 years' experience in production planning and buying in a high mix, low volume environment
- Intermediate Excel skill set - pivot tables, VLOOKUP / XLOOKUP at a minimum; advanced would be great
- Must be able to collaborate with production, procurement, inventory, quality, and logistics teams
- Motivated - Focusing on candidates who are highly motivated - by this I mean driven, organized, structured, and goal oriented - they desire a career in the supply chain.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
- Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
- Working knowledge of ERP software.
- Proficient in PC computer skills ? Must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of personnel.
- Proficiency with planning tools, ERP systems, and procedures required in a manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge and understanding of MRP, JIT, Kanban, and Lean Manufacturing.
- Experience creating and managing manufacturing production work orders.
- Management of cycle time reduction, process flow, and cost optimization.
- High-level written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in gathering and analyzing data and effectively identifying and reporting problems and opportunities.
- Interpersonal skills, and an understanding of relationship building with internal and external customers and co-workers.
- Proficient in Outlook, Skype, Excel, PowerPoint, and AX a plus.
