The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is home to the Center for Advanced Biomedical Imaging (CABI), a specialized department focused on supporting advanced imaging, radiochemistry, and radiopharmaceutical production for clinical and research applications. The Radiopharmacy Laboratory Technician plays a critical role in CABI by ensuring laboratory readiness, maintaining inventory, and supporting safe handling of materials within a highly regulated environment. The Radiopharmacy Laboratory Technician works closely with radiochemists, laboratory leadership, and operational teams to sustain efficient and compliant workflows. The Radiopharmacy Laboratory Technician position is essential for maintaining operational continuity and safety within the laboratory setting.

The ideal candidate has a two-year college degree and at least two years of experience working with or manufacturing radioactive materials, along with a solid foundation in laboratory operations and inventory coordination. A background in healthcare or laboratory environments, combined with familiarity with safety protocols and regulated materials, will support success in this role.

Responsibilities

Inventory Management
  • Place orders for supplies, chemicals, reagents, glassware, and other CRF components
  • Maintain inventory using data systems and resolve discrepancies
  • Collaborate with the Senior Radiochemist and Director to ensure consistent supply flow
  • Receive deliveries and distribute materials to appropriate laboratory areas
  • Track equipment, materials, and storage to support uninterrupted operations

Cleaning and Maintenance
  • Clean hot cells, equipment, laboratories, workrooms, clean rooms, and storerooms containing radioactive materials
  • Confirm completion of daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning by contract staff
  • Monitor cleaning of floors, walls, ceilings, and waste removal
  • Maintain cleanliness in microbiological testing areas for radiopharmaceuticals

Safety Compliance
  • Conduct monitoring surveys for areas where materials are used and stored
  • Follow established policies and procedures to maintain a safe work environment
  • Perform safety duties including handling, segregation, and processing of hazardous and radioactive materials
  • Assist radiochemists and radiopharmacists with hazardous material disposal
  • Inspect safety equipment and ensure compliance with regulations
  • Coordinate safety programs and ensure adherence to manufacturing and research guidelines

Operational Support
  • Schedule appointments and escort contractors within restricted areas per institutional policy
  • Support laboratory access compliance and operational coordination
  • Assist with additional assigned duties to support laboratory efficiency

EDUCATION
  • Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Preferred: Associate's Degree Science.

WORK EXPERIENCE
  • Required: 1 year Experience in coordinating inventory and maintaining a laboratory or healthcare - related manufacturing facility.
  • Preferred: 2 years Working with or manufacturing radioactive materials.
