JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

Sterile Compounding/Preparation Demonstrates proficiency in the following areas, meeting accuracy and productivity standards:

  • hazardous and non-hazardous
  • investigational drug preparation (including Phase 1, 2, and 3).
  • viral/BCG/vaccines
  • intrathecal
  • ambulatory pumps
  • high risk sterile validation

Inventory Management a. Reviews and monitors par levels

  • Reconciles inventory counts in appropriate systems
  • Properly manages vial inventory (e.g. lot management access)
  • Ordering/receiving medications and supplies
  • Tech-Check-Tech certified (per area)
  • Accurately and efficiently completes cycle counts and inventory audits
  • Troubleshoots, reports, and follows-up with medication storage devices (e.g. refrigerators)
  • Resolves controlled access cabinet discrepancy reports
  • Reviews and addresses recall notification requests

Area Maintenance a. Equipment maintenance (e.g. balances, printers, computers, scanners)

  • Process review and document updates (e.g. SOPs, competencies)
  • CADD pump and supply management
  • Alaris pump preventative maintenance and library update management
  • Monitors and reconciles inventory systems reports (e.g. medication outdates)

Other Duties As Assigned

Requirements

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Education: Technical School

Certification: Current Pharmacy Technician Registration with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP).

Preferred Certification: ACPE Sterile Products Certification.

Experience: Two years pharmacy technician experience in a hospital, infusion center or retail pharmacy.

Preferred Experience: IV sterile preparation experience, ACPE IV Sterile Products Competency

Onsite Presence: Is Required

This position may be responsible for maintaining the security and integrity of critical infrastructure, as defined in Section 113.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code and therefore may require routine reviews and screening. The ability to satisfy and maintain all requirements necessary to ensure the continued security and integrity of such infrastructure is a condition of hire and continued employment.
