A Postdoctoral Fellow position is available in the department of Infectious Disease & Infection Control Research.
The Postdoctoral Fellow will engage in preclinical research utilizing advanced mouse models to investigate fungal pathogenesis, immunopathogenesis, and immunotherapy of opportunistic mold infections. The role also includes compiling and analyzing a host and pathogen biorepository derived from cancer patients with invasive mold infections. Additionally, the Postdoctoral Fellow will contribute to research on the mode of action, resistance mechanisms, and immunopharmacology of antifungal agents.
The Postdoctoral Fellow will work under the guidance of Drs. Dimitrios P. Kontoyiannis (Professor, Director) and Sebastian Wurster (Assistant Professor, Junior Lead Experimental Mycology), alongside their experienced laboratory team at MD Anderson's Medical Mycology Research Center.
All duties and responsibilities are carried out in compliance with institutional policies, ethical research standards, and applicable federal and state regulations.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Applicants should hold a PhD or medical degree and have prior research experience in microbiology, molecular biology, cell biology, immunology, genetics, or a related discipline. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in animal models, microbial culture, genetic techniques, and/or microscopy. Strong candidates will demonstrate independence, possess effective oral and written communication skills, and show the ability to collaborate with and mentor individuals at various career stages, including undergraduate and graduate students.
Required: At least 2 years of lab experience in microbiology, molecular biology, cell biology, immunology, genetics, or a related field, with significant hands-on experience with in-vivo models. Strong communication, writing, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred: Experience with microbiological methods (e.g., fungal culture, susceptibility testing), advanced immunological methods (e.g., multi-parameter flow cytometry), transcriptomics, and/or clinical biospecimens.

MD Anderson offers full-time postdoc positions with a salary ranging from $64,000 to $76,000. depending on the number of years of postgraduate experience. - Plan, organize, and perform experimental mycology research projects, including preclinical research (in vitro research, fly models, murine infection models) and processing/analysis of human biospecimens.
- Perform literature review to design and advance research projects, establish new assay methodology, and identify alternative approaches.
- Perform timely data analysis with proper interpretation of data.
- Prepare reports and present findings to colleagues, PI, co-investigators, and collaborators.
- Attend academic conferences or meetings for oral or visual (poster) presentation of findings.
- Guide and supervise technicians and students to accomplish research or other laboratory duties.
- Write manuscripts, research proposals, and collaborate with lab members to reinforce expertise and expedite research programs.
- Keep updated electronic lab notebook.
