Radiation Therapy Nursing Department

The Radiation Therapy Nursing Department provides specialized care for patients undergoing radiation treatment. Our team collaborates with interdisciplinary professionals to ensure safe, effective, and compassionate care throughout the treatment process. We focus on evidence-based practices to optimize patient outcomes and enhance the overall experience for patients and their families.

Assistant Nurse Manager Role

The Assistant Nurse Manager supports the coordination of patient care services and daily operations within the unit. This role ensures high-quality, evidence-based care across the continuum for patients receiving radiation therapy. The position also assists in staff development, workflow management, and performance improvement initiatives.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a licensed Registered Nurse with graduation from an accredited nursing program and holds a Bachelor's degree in nursing. They have at least five years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in oncology or radiation therapy settings. Current Texas RN licensure and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification are required; Oncology Nurse Certification (OCN) or specialty certification is preferred. Strong leadership, critical thinking, and communication skills are essential for success in this role.

Shift Details

The typical work schedule is Monday - Friday, day shift, with occasional weekend or holiday coverage as needed.

Hourly Breakdown of Salary Range

Hourly breakdown of salary range: Minimum $53.36 - Midpoint $66.83 - Maximum $80.28

Job Description

  • Participate in unit-based clinical care at least 50% of the time.
  • Organize workflow and allocate resources efficiently.
  • Respond to emergencies per established SOP and algorithms.
  • Validate staff performance and knowledge objectively.
  • Implement cost-saving strategies and avoid waste of resources.
  • Ensure adherence to safety standards, guidelines, and policies.
  • Inspect and assemble equipment for safe and correct functioning.
  • Assist with staffing plans, orientation, and staff development.
  • Support performance improvement projects and integration of research-based practices.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to resolve operational issues.

EDUCATION

  • Required: Bachelor's Degree Nursing.
  • Preferred: Master's Degree Nursing or related field.

Work Experience

  • Required: 3 years Clinical nursing experience.
  • : Successful completion of the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center New Graduate Nurse Residency Program can be substituted for two of the three required years of clinical nursing experience.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Required: RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license (RN). Upon Hire and
  • Required: BLS - Basic Life Support Upon Hire or
  • Required: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Upon Hire
  • Preferred: OCN - Oncology Nurse Certification Certification in Oncology or specialty practice area. Upon Hire
  • Preferred: ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification as required by patient care area. Upon Hire
  • Preferred: PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certification as required by patient care area. Upon Hire

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
