Come join our Education team! The full-time STEM Curriculum Delivery Specialist is responsible for delivering engaging, high-quality STEM learning experiences that inspire curiosity, build science capital and foster lifelong participation in STEM. This position serves as the primary facilitator of McWane Science Center’s educational programming while contributing field-based expertise to the continuous improvement of curriculum.


Approximately 70% of this position focuses on facilitation and educational delivery, while 30% contributes to curriculum refinement, program evaluation and subject matter expertise.

Accountabilities and Major Duties

·        Facilitate standards-based STEM experiences including field trips, outreach, homeschool labs, camps, teacher professional development, community programs and family workshops. 

·        Create welcoming, inclusive, inquiry-based learning environments consistent with the Science Engagement Plan; adapt instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners and audiences. 

·        Serve as subject matter expert for assigned content areas. 

·        Provide structured feedback to Curriculum Development Specialists regarding program effectiveness and participant learning. 

·        Pilot newly developed curriculum and document recommendations for improvement. 

·        Assist with revision of facilitation guides and training resources. 

·        Maintain program supplies, equipment, classrooms and outreach materials. 

·        Support museum engagement initiatives.

·        Represent McWane Science Center at community events.

·        Mentor seasonal educators, volunteers and interns. 

·        Assist with the care of the animals in our educational animal collection including feeding, cleaning and animal handling.

·        Comply with a Safety Procedures Program that ensures the safety of Education staff and visitors engaged in educational programs. Compliance with OSHA regulations and MSDS requirements is mandatory.


Minimum Qualifications 

·        Bachelor's degree in science, education, or related field. 

·        Experience teaching or facilitating STEM learning. 

·        Excellent public speaking and communication skills. 

·        Ability to engage learners of all ages and backgrounds in a friendly, outgoing, professional manner.

·        Strong classroom and group management skills. 

·        Ability to travel throughout Alabama, including occasional overnight travel. 

·        Ability to work weekends, evenings, and holidays.

·        Ability to handle small animals, including reptiles and marine animals, in program presentations required.

·        Must possess a valid Driver License that is subject to acceptable annual motor vehicle reports.  

·        Must provide verification of valid minimum personal vehicle liability insurance as required by State law.  


Minimum Physical Qualifications

·        Sit/stand for extended periods of time without being able to leave the work area.

·        Lift objects frequently in performing the work (10-20 lbs. frequently).

·        Pull or push objects on a regular basis (50 lbs.).

·        Grasp object utilizing the fingers.

·        Reach for objects above the head or below the waist.

·        Stoop or crouch by bending at the waist or by bending legs.

·        Ability to operate a motor vehicle. 

·        Hearing and visual acuity.

·        Exposure to chemicals, fumes and vapors that could potentially affect the health of the employee.
