RESIDENTIAL PROJECT ENGINEER

Location: Omaha, Nebraska

Company: McNeil Company

Salary Range: $55,000–$65,000

We’re less interested in a perfect résumé than in how you treat people. If you’re the kind of person who notices what needs doing and does it — before anyone asks —  keep reading.

About Us

For almost 50 years, McNeil Company has built places people belong. We’re a fully integrated design-build firm — architecture and construction under one roof — working on high-end custom homes for clients across Omaha who trust us with their most personal projects. We grow carefully and on purpose. That means we hire the same way: we look for people who genuinely care, take pride in their craft, and treat everyone — from the client to the crew — with respect.

Our residential team is busy, and we’re looking for one more Project Engineer to grow with us.

The Role

As a Project Engineer on our high-end residential team, you’ll support our Project  Managers and Superintendents in bringing custom homes to life — keeping the details, the documents, and the people moving in the same direction. You’ll work shoulder to shoulder with owners, designers, subcontractors, and our internal team.  Every role here matters, and this one is central to how our projects actually get built  well.

What You’ll Do

Project coordination — Partner with Project Managers and Superintendents to keep projects moving smoothly. Help prepare and run meetings with owners,  designers, and subcontractors. Visit sites to investigate issues and confirm work meets our specifications.

Estimating and procurement — Perform detailed quantity take-offs and help prepare cost estimates. Manage material procurement, including ordering and tracking delivery schedules.

Documentation and contracts — Prepare and manage project documentation,  including contracts, change orders, and RFI submissions. Keep meticulous records of details, timelines, and budgets.

Problem-solving — Develop thoughtful solutions to design and construction challenges, monitor progress, and propose adjustments that keep work on time and on budget.

Mentorship — Share what you know with junior staff. We’re a place where people are invested in, not just managed.

Who You Are

The right person for McNeil isn’t necessarily the most impressive on paper — it’s someone who already embodies care, service, and pride in their work. We can teach the construction side. We’re looking for:

• Someone who genuinely cares about the people and the details behind the work.

• A steward who protects a client’s and the team’s interests as if they were their own.

• Pride in craft — you sweat the details others won’t notice.

• Collaborative and respectful with teammates, trades, and clients alike. Low ego. • Coachable — open to honest feedback and eager to grow.

• Reliable, warm, and trustworthy, especially when no one’s watching. • In it for the long haul — you treat the work as a calling, not a layover.

Helpful Experience & Skills

• A bachelor’s degree in construction management, architecture, civil engineering, or a related field (preferred).

• 2 years of relevant experience in residential or high-end construction. • Working knowledge of construction software — Excel, Procore, and Bluebeam. • Strong verbal, written, and graphic communication.

• Meticulous organization and the ability to juggle complex schedules and documentation.

If you’re lighter on one of these but strong on character and craft, we still want to hear from you. We’re built to help people grow into their roles.

What We Offer

We help people get better at their craft and achieve more than when they started.  Alongside that, we offer a genuinely strong package:

Salary & bonuses — A starting salary of $55,000–$65,000, plus performance-based bonuses.

Health benefits — Comprehensive group health insurance, with the company covering 90% of the base plan for employees. Buy-up options for enhanced coverage, plus elective dental and vision.

Retirement — A 401(k) with a 3% guaranteed company match, beginning the first calendar quarter after one year of employment. Pre-tax or Roth contributions available.

Paid time off — 1–3 weeks of paid vacation based on tenure, plus sick leave with carryover options.

Holiday pay — Seven paid holidays a year, including a floating holiday of your choice, plus a half-day off on Christmas Eve.

Professional development — Ongoing training, certifications, and mentorship to help you advance.

Additional benefits — Mileage reimbursement or a future vehicle allowance for business travel; a $600 annual technology stipend for personal phone use or a company-provided phone; company-paid group life insurance with optional disability coverage; and a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) for healthcare and dependent care.

A team you’ll want to be part of — We celebrate milestones, host quarterly team-building events, and keep our doors and our communication open.
