General Laborer

Summary: A general laborer performs a wide variety of physical tasks for heavy-highway construction including demolition and concrete work, cleaning up construction debris from jobsite. Laborer also assist craft workers in their specialized projects and provide general support to the construction operations. Must be able to lift heavy objects and perform strenuous physical labor in all types of extreme weather conditions.

Essential duties and responsibilities include but not limited to:

• A variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor in heavy highway construction projects
• Helps equipment operator, carpenters, and other skilled labor when necessary
• Prepares construction sites by cleaning obstacles and hazards
• Maintains a clean job site – picks up all tools and equipment and secures job site each day to eliminate potential hazards
• Loads, unloads and identifies construction materials, machinery and tools and distributes them to the appropriate locations, according to the project plans and specifications
• Operation of various equipment
• Assembles and dismantles temporary structures, such as scaffolding
• Removes, fills and/or compacts earth
• Assists craft workers
• Ready to learn from on-the-job training when necessary
• Performs site clean-up
• Heavy lifting
• Concrete work, demolitions and/or cleanup, excavation, shoring and bracing, placing rebar
• Available to work days and nights if needed

Qualifications and requirements:

· High School Diploma or equivalent

· Current OSHA 10 certification

· Commercial construction experience desired

· Work within heavy highway construction standards

· Follows instructions from supervisors

· Be punctual

· Must follow company policies and procedures

Physical Demands:

· The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

· The position is required to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions. The employee lifts, pushes, pulls or carries objects and uses abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue. The position requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multilimbed coordination. The position requires full mobility of the back, arms and legs in the course of performing this job. The employee must have excellent stamina.

· While performing the essential functions of this position, the employee is exposed to wet, cold, heat, quickly changing conditions, work near moving mechanical parts, work in high precarious places, outdoor weather conditions, extreme cold and extreme heat.

Pay: $35.70 per hour
