What are the responsibilities and job description for the CNC Methods & CAM Programming Engineer (Precision Machining) position at McNally Industries?
Your day at a glance
You start by reviewing a new Technical Data Package (TDP) and the contract requirements. You translate both into clear routings and business-system entries, then open your preferred CAD/CAM suite to build efficient, reliable CNC programs for complex, tight-tolerance components. Before lunch, you select cutting tools, design or refine a custom fixture, and head to the floor to perform a critical setup. You qualify the process, capture learnings, and hand off a proven method to the machinist who’ll run production.
Later, you walk a cell to spot waste, proposing a lean tweak that trims cycle time and improves repeatability. An engineer swings by with a question about sampling plans; you coach them through the approach. Before you wrap, you support an estimate for a new RFQ, validate process risks, and ensure every step aligns with customer, solicitation, and contractual requirements.
What you’ll own
- Develop robust manufacturing methods and sophisticated CNC programs for precision-machined parts.
- Select tooling strategies and design/support fixturing to secure quality and throughput.
- Perform crucial machine setups; qualify and transfer proven processes to machinists.
