Job Summary
The HR & Safety Specialist plays a dual role in supporting both human resource functions and workplace safety initiatives at McMurray Fabrics, a textile manufacturing environment. This position is responsible for assisting with employee relations, recruitment, compliance, payroll and HR administration functions, while also promoting and maintaining a safe, compliant, and productive work environment. The role is primarily based in Aberdeen, NC, with regular oversight and some travel to our Lincolnton, NC facility.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience as an HR Support Specialist, including supporting the talent acquisition, onboarding, training, employee relations and retention functions of the company. Additionally, they should have a proven track record of assisting with benefits, classification, compensation, time and effort.
As the HR/Safety Specialist at McMurray Fabrics, you will support three manufacturing locations and the HR teams manager. He/she will need to have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and an enthusiasm for nurturing employee performance and developing a pleasant work environment
Duties
- Manage human capital processes including talent acquisition, onboarding, employee orientation, performance management, and employee evaluation to attract and retain top talent.
- Administer benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, workers' compensation, and leave policies such as FMLA (Family and Medical Leave Act), ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations.
- Develop and implement safety policies aligned with OSHA standards; conduct regular safety audits and training sessions to promote a safe work environment.
- Oversee HRIS systems such as Workday, SAP SuccessFactors, or UltiPro for data entry, record keeping, payroll processing through platforms like Paychex or ADP, and workforce management.
- Lead change management initiatives related to organizational design, HR sourcing strategies, and HR technology upgrades like Oracle HCM or PeopleSoft.
- Facilitate employee relations by managing conflict resolution efforts and fostering open communication channels across teams.
- Support strategic planning efforts including affirmative action planning, succession planning, and organization development projects to ensure long-term workforce stability.
Experience
- Proven experience in human resources management with a strong understanding of employment & labor law compliance.
- Demonstrated expertise in safety program administration aligned with OSHA standards; experience with safety certifications preferred.
- Extensive background in talent acquisition including recruiting via ATS systems such as iCIMS or Taleo; experience with social media management for recruitment is a plus.
- Proficiency in HRIS platforms like Workday, Oracle HCM, or Kronos; familiarity with payroll systems such as Paychex or Paylocity is highly desirable.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to lead multiple initiatives simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration across departments; experience in conflict management is advantageous.
- Knowledge of benefits administration processes including workers' compensation claims handling and leave management procedures. Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- A combination of office and manufacturing floor environments
- Exposure to typical conditions in a textile plant (noise, machinery, varying temperatures)
- Must be able to walk production floors, conduct inspections, and occasionally lift up to 25 lbs.
