POSITION TITLE: Outreach & Education Specialist
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
This individual will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and managing an Outreach and Education Program to increase awareness of child abuse and prevention in our community. The program’s goal is to raise awareness of the prevalence and consequences of child abuse by educating the community about the steps they can take to prevent, recognize and react responsibly.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
· Design and deliver outreach and education programs to community members, increasing awareness and prevention of child sexual and physical abuse
· Provide training on child sexual abuse prevention such as, but not limited to, Darkness to Light’s (D2L) Stewards of Children program, traveling throughout the community as needed, coordinating all details
· Create and deliver educational programming to schools to educate students, staff, parents on child abuse prevention, bullying prevention, Internet safety, and Commercial sexual exploitation of children/human trafficking prevention
· Coordinate community events with local organizations to develop and strengthen strategic community partnerships, and engage local leaders and stakeholders
· Market training opportunities and prevention materials to organizations including, but not limited to, agencies serving children and youth, faith-based organizations, educational institutions, alternative education settings, local businesses, and other human service agencies
· Assist in the development and implementation of goals, policies and procedures for outreach and education efforts
· Utilize various communication methods to disseminate child abuse prevention resources to families and community members including in person, online, and social media platforms
· Utilize appropriate evaluation tools to ensure quality assurance
· Participate in 30 hours of Professional Development related to child abuse prevention and education and regularly review current literature/research
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
· Strong written and public speaking skills; Knowledge and experience in effective training and group facilitation techniques both in person and online; Experience and ability presenting comfortably to a diverse array of individuals and groups including but not limited to children, youth, and adult populations; Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint) and other computer software; Ability to effectively prioritize and organize assignments in a fast paced environment; Respect for diversity and a commitment to developing multicultural competency sensitivity; Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with multiple stakeholders; Ability to work in a collaborative team setting
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree preferred in education, human services or related field. Background knowledge of child abuse and/or child advocacy centers a plus. Salary depends on experience and will start at the bottom of the pay scale to enable room for growth. Salary Range $40,000-$50,000
