This position enforces all civil and criminal laws of the State of Texas and McLennan County. When directed to the Deputy Constable will assist other agencies (e.g. McLennan County Sheriffs Department, City Police, Texas Highway Patrol, University Police, etc.) to protect the citizens of McLennan County and anyone traveling through McLennan County. This position affects the economic and social wellbeing of the citizens of McLennan County.

When directed to the Deputy Constable will assist other agencies (e.g. McLennan County Sheriffs Department, City Police, Texas Highway Patrol, University Police, etc.) to protect the citizens of McLennan County and anyone traveling through McLennan County. This position affects the economic and social wellbeing of the citizens of McLennan County.
## Essential Functions
- Provides security for the courthouse by preparing courtroom for trials and jury selection and maintaining security during trials
- Ensures the safety and security of the Courthouse staff and visitors
- Oversees courtroom security by screening all participants in the proceedings, including defendants and their families
- Assist with the safety and security at Parades, Heart Texas Fair, and other public service activities
- As directed by the Constable or Chief Deputy, the Part Time Deputy Constable works in partnership with Deputy Constables on project specific assignments
- Regular attendance and timeliness are required
## Minimum Requirements
Education
*Required:*
- High School Diploma or GED
- Must be a certified Peace Office in the state of Texas (must not be on probationary status for disciplinary reasons)
- Associate degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Law, or related field
Required
- 1 year experience in law enforcement
- Current and valid Texas drivers license (Class C) and safe driving record
- Must have own firearm, cuffs, equipment, and duty belt
- Possess excellent knowledge of local, state, and federal laws pertinent to law enforcement
- Exceptional skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with County staff, inmates, police departments and the public
- Possess excellent physical assessment skills while being able to make independent judgments
- Ability to work alone in potentially dangerous situations
- Skill in the use and care of firearms and other law enforcement related equipment
- Analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions and implement recommendations in support of goals
- Ability to supervise emergency situations, make effective decisions under stressful situations, and direct the use of physical force necessary to protect oneself and others
- Working knowledge of law enforcement guidelines and criminal investigation methods and te hniques
- Skill in administering Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and first aid
- Possess excellent physical assessment skills while being able to make independent judgments
