GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION
The instructor will lead college-level (WECM) courses in the Interpreter Training program. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to maintaining office hours, participating in college committees, promoting and supporting the department's mission and goals, curriculum design and program development, participating in professional development activities, working across departments to develop student communication, computation, and problem-solving skills. Faculty are expected to accept courses as assigned which could include nontraditional venues, such as evening, weekend, dual-credit, and / or online courses.
NOTE : This is a security sensitive position and an appropriate background investigation will be made on applicants being strongly considered for this position.
WORKING CONDITIONS :
Occasional field trips. Sustained posture or intense attentiveness for prolonged periods. Light lifting (less than 30 lbs.). Walking, pushing, pulling on a regular basis. Work environment-Minimal hazard / exposure : Standard office setting. At least minimal environmental controls to assure health and comfort.
BENEFITS :
Part-Time Retirement. Participation in Medicare Part A, but not Social Security (FICA).
QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS :
Education : Bachelor's Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) or Interpreting, or in a related field from an accredited college or university
Experience : 3 year of experience teaching ASL and / or interpreting as part of formal classes
Certifications : Interpreter Certification through BEI, RID, or other recognized accrediting entities
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS :
Education : Master's Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) or Interpreting, or in a related field from an accredited college or university, with a minimum of 18 graduate hours related to ASL and / or Interpreting.
Experience : At least three years of current work experience in the field of interpreting and / or training interpreters. Experience teaching and / or mentoring adult learners regarding ASL or interpreting.
Certifications : Interpreter Certification through BEI, RID, or other recognized accrediting entities, and at least 3 year of experience as an interpreter for the Dear using American Sign Language.
