What are the responsibilities and job description for the Peer Counselor position at McLean Hospital?
The Peer Counselor position works with peers to provide support through education, resources, and community integration, promoting the recovery process.

Essential Functions
-Works with multidisciplinary staff to assist individuals with vocational, social, and life skills on-site and in the community.
-Meets one-on-one with members to provide support around members' mental health recovery process while setting appropriate limits and professional boundaries.
-Receives one-on-one every week from program supervisory staff to provide guidance and support to the peer counselor as he/she interfaces with members.
-Participates in weekly team meetings to provide updates, set goals, and outline action plans for team members.
-Peer Counselor has access to members' personal history; therefore, CONFIDENTIALITY is a must. - Individually leads/facilitates groups to provide support and guidance to members.
-Uses his/her own recovery experience as a framework to understand and support members in their own recovery journey and process his/her own recovery experience professionally, consistently observing appropriate limits/boundaries, including those supported by the Peer Specialist certification training.
-Complete required documentation in a timely fashion. - Inspire hope by modeling personal responsibility, self-advocacy, and wellness.
Education High School Diploma or Equivalent required Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No Licenses and Credentials Certified Peer and Family Specialist [CPFS] - State Specific Certification Board preferred Class D Passenger Vehicle Driver's License [State License] - Generic - HR Only preferred Experience Related experience 0-1 year required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities - Candidate has a history of managing their own illness and can proactively use personal experience to support others in their recovery. - Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to build rapport and active listening skills. - Knowledge about resilience, recovery, and wellness from behavioral health conditions. - Self-awareness and the ability to receive feedback to enhance learning and recovery. - Ability to set appropriate personal and professional boundaries.
