Starting Hourly Rate: $18.3028 - $20.0697 per hour
Basic Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00 am- 4:30 pm
Location: Bloomington, IL
Position Summary
The Visitor Aide greets and provides information to the public and performs security monitoring tasks to ensure a safe and secure environment for employees and the public in County buildings and facilities. Work is performed with independence under the general direction and guidance of a supervisor who reviews work through observation while in progress and feedback from the public for courteousness, accuracy and adherence to established standards and procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Screens all visitors entering the Law and Justice Center to protect county employees.
- Checks diligently for any contraband.
- Greets all visitors and answers informational inquiries and questions; provides information regarding county services and location of departments and offices; notifies county employees of visitors or directs public to desired location.
- Keeps informed of events and activities in assigned facility to provide accurate and timely assistance to citizens and other visitors.
- Notifies County Sheriff’s Department of any potential violence or threats.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of effective communication techniques designed to make people feel valued.
- Knowledge of local government operations, Human Resource related programs, policies, and plans, and modern office practices and procedures.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word Excel PowerPoint and other similar programs.
- Skill in customer service.
- Ability to interact with the public and provide information in a polite and efficient manner both in person and on the telephone.
- Ability to develop a working knowledge of the county’s services and programs and names of staff.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and supervisors.
- Ability to establish a public image of courteousness and authority with the public.
- Ability to deal properly with confidential and sensitive matters.
Required Qualifications
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 1 to 3 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Physical Attributes/Demands
The work is light work which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects. Requires mental acuity including the ability to make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes the ability to express ideas by means of the spoken word and possess close visual acuity.
Work is performed in a relatively safe and secure work environment.
