Position Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Engineering Supervisor, performs skilled work in painting furniture, equipment and buildings. Also, prepares surfaces for appropriate coating/covering including patching and repairs. Estimates time and material cost for painting and redecorating jobs as requested. Observes safety regulations pertaining to flammable mixtures and materials and all other applicable OSHA regulations. In cases where no painting is scheduled, performs other types of work in the maintenance system as directed.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
1. Accurately, estimates quantity and type of materials needed for wall, floor and ceiling repair, remodeling or decorating.
2. Paints/stains interior and exterior of hospital buildings, sands, paints, varnishes and refinished doors, furniture, fixtures, and equipment.
3. Prepares surface for painting by removing old paint, cleans surface, ceilings and woodwork, repairs damaged walls and ceilings, scrapes and putties window sashes.
4. Rigs ladders and staging for painting.
5. Uses standard paint products, applies paint, varnish, or stain using brush, roller, spray gun or airless equipment.
6. Produces graphic designs for specialty painting; performs texture/sponge painting.
7. Performs minor furniture restoration.
8. Drywalls and finishes as needed.
9. Applies acrovyn for wall finishes as needed
10. Applies paint to parking lot areas as needed
11. Applies color coded paints to steam, water and other piping.
12. Insures paint inventory is in adequate supply.
13. Maintain tools in proper repair and uses proper safety techniques while completing assignments. Maintains a clean work area.
14. Assists in seasonal outside work, such as snow shoveling, spreading of sand or salt, snow plowing parking lots and driveways and similar tasks.
15. Responds to codes as appropriate.
16. Assures timely and quality completion of assigned work in compliance with department standards and procedures.
17. Performs other duties as required or requested.
Qualifications:
Required:
High school diploma or equivalent required
Two years of general painting experience
Previous experience working with vinyl wall covering and hanging wallpaper
Must possess valid State of Michigan Operator’s license
Must meet approval by insurance carrier to drive hospital vehicles
Preferred:
Completion of an accredited painting apprentice program
Prior experience working in a health care setting
