Position Summary:
Supports hospital/clinical operations, which includes receiving, decontamination, assembly, packaging, sterilization, storage, and distribution of sterile instruments and supplies used in the hospital and clinics.
Supports hospital/clinical operations, which includes receiving, decontamination, assembly, packaging, sterilization, storage, and distribution of sterile instruments and supplies used in the hospital and clinics.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
1. Cleans, sterilizes, and assembles equipment, supplies, and instruments, according to prescribed procedures and techniques, performing all or any combination of the following tasks:
A) Decontaminates surgical instruments, containers, and respiratory equipment, following management guidelines
B) Prepares packs of supplies and instruments, dressing and treatment trays, according to established procedure;
C) Sterilizes items such as, but not limited to, instruments, equipment, surgical linens, surgical packs, treatment trays, and syringes, using steam or gas sterilizer, according to the manufacturer’s instructions;
D) Monitors quality control systems for sterile supplies;
2. Maintains drills, saws, and other equipment according to established procedure.
3. Fills surgical case carts according to physician’s preference cards.
4. Gathers contaminated equipment, supplies, and instruments from various departments, and returns them after disinfecting or sterilizing.
5. Fills requisitions, records charges, and inventories supplies.
6. Participates in performance improvement activities.
7. Performs other related duties as required and directed.

- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of approved Sterile Processing Course
- Will have one year from hire to be certified by the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) and or The International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management (IAHCSMM)
Preferred:
- Previous Sterile Processing or Operating room experience required (If candidate with Sterile Processing experience are not available after 30 days (30) days of posting, candidates with knowledge of medical/surgical equipment gained through experience may be considered for the on-the-job training.
- Knowledge of medical terminology preferred
