Build the future, spark innovation and align your career with purpose.

McKinstry is innovating the waste and climate harm out of the built environment and creating lasting impact. Together, we're building a thriving planet.

Buildings are a leading contributor to the climate crisis, generating nearly 40% of total global energy-related carbon emissions. We're making a lasting impact on our industry and within our communities by addressing the climate, affordability and equity crises through:

        renewables and energy services

        engineering and design

        construction and facility services

To get where we're going, we need big thinkers, problem solvers and collaborative mindsets. Does that sound like you?

The Opportunity with McKinstry

What if you could build the talent pipeline that powers a cleaner, smarter future? McKinstry is searching for a Director, Enterprise Workforce Development — a builder's role for someone who sees workforce development not as a support function, but as a strategic advantage.

In this role, you'll create the strategies, programs, academies, and partnerships that develop the workforce McKinstry needs today — and in the future. That means translating real business demand into real-world training environments, from the McKinstry Academy to future regional academies and schools. Instead of relying on the external labor market, you'll build the talent supply from the ground up, working hand-in-hand with operations, education providers, labor partners, and community organizations.

This is a role for someone who thrives at the intersection of strategy, community, and craft — someone who can see the workforce McKinstry needs three years from now and start building it today.

What you'll be driving:

Enterprise Workforce Development Strategy: Develop and execute McKinstry's enterprise workforce development strategy, identifying workforce needs and creating sustainable talent solutions that support current and future business demand — including programs, academies, schools, training locations, and capability-building models that strengthen talent supply before it becomes a problem.

Academy & Training Location Strategy: Lead the strategy, development, governance, and expansion of the McKinstry Academy and future physical workforce development locations. You'll ensure every facility, curriculum model, instructor, and safety standard is tightly connected to priority workforce needs — not just occupying space, but producing results.

Workforce Development Program Portfolio: Lead the design, governance, and continuous improvement of workforce development programs — from career-connected learning experiences and technical training models to academies, schools, and career preparation initiatives — that create pathways to successful careers across McKinstry's full family of jobs.

Enterprise Alignment & Workforce Development Committee: Partner with the Workforce Development Committee, Talent Acquisition, Enterprise Learning & Talent Management, Finance, operations leaders, and Labor/Construction partners to align investments, surface workforce priorities, and make sure development efforts are pulling in the same direction as enterprise talent demand.

Strategic Workforce Partnerships: Build and manage high-impact partnerships with education providers, labor organizations, community groups, workforce agencies, customers, industry associations, and public-sector partners — relationships that generate real training capacity, skill development, and workforce creation, not just candidate referrals.

What You Need to Succeed at McKinstry:

10 years of progressive experience in workforce development, talent development, learning and development, education partnerships, academy or training-location models, program strategy, HR, operations, or related work.

Experience designing or leading workforce development programs, academies, schools, technical training models, cohort-based development, or capability-building initiatives tied to real business workforce needs.

Strong understanding of career-connected learning, work-based learning, job-family development, role readiness, apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship concepts, technical training, and workforce capability development.

Ability to operate fluidly across Talent Acquisition, Enterprise Learning & Talent Management, Social Impact, operations, business leaders, Labor/Construction partners, external partners, and executive governance forums.

Strong business acumen, program strategy, stakeholder management, facilitation, communication, funding/prioritization discipline, and a genuine measurement orientation — you close the loop on outcomes.

Experience leading teams or cross-functional initiatives in a matrixed organization.

Skilled at clarifying boundaries, reducing duplication, and governing shared work without overreaching into responsibilities better owned by partner functions.

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, Education, Organizational Development, Public Administration, Workforce Development, Operations, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
