Produce Manager – Full Time

McKinnon's Market & Super Butcher Shop – Danvers, MA

McKinnon's Market & Super Butcher Shop is seeking an experienced, hands-on Produce Manager to lead our Danvers produce department.

The Produce Manager reports to the Store Manager and works with guidance from our Regional Directors. This position is accountable for the department's team, products, presentation, financial performance and daily operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, motivate and hold Produce Department associates accountable
  • Recruit, hire, train, develop and evaluate department associates in partnership with store leadership
  • Address performance concerns and participate in disciplinary and termination decisions when necessary
  • Create a positive, productive environment centered on teamwork and excellent customer service
  • Oversee the department's daily operations, including purchasing, inventory management, merchandising and product rotation
  • Maintain attractive, fresh and well-stocked displays
  • Monitor product quality, freshness, pricing and availability
  • Drive department sales and profitability
  • Control labor, packaging, inventory, shrink and other departmental expenses
  • Plan staffing and schedules based on business needs
  • Ensure proper ordering and inventory levels while minimizing waste
  • Maintain compliance with food-safety regulations, sanitation requirements and company procedures
  • Ensure department policies and operating standards are consistently followed
  • Work collaboratively with the Store Manager, Assistant Store Manager and other department leaders
  • Perform the duties of Produce Department associates as business needs require
  • Complete special projects and other responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications

  • At least three years of management experience, preferably in grocery, produce or another food-retail environment
  • Previous experience as a Department Manager, Assistant Department Manager or equivalent
  • Demonstrated success leading a team of four or more employees
  • Strong knowledge of produce products, handling practices, merchandising and department operations
  • Experience managing labor, inventory, purchasing, shrink and department profitability
  • Ability to hire, train, develop and hold employees accountable
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational, planning and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work effectively with associates and leadership throughout the store
  • Availability to work a flexible full-time schedule, including evenings, weekends and holidays as needed

Physical Requirements

This is an active, hands-on leadership position. Candidates must be able to perform the following essential functions, with or without reasonable accommodation:

  • Work shifts of up to 8–10 hours
  • Stand and walk for extended periods
  • Bend, stoop, reach, grasp and climb ladders safely
  • Lift and carry loads weighing up to 60 pounds
  • Push and pull carts weighing up to 100 pounds
